Klawervlei Stud’s inform sire TWICE OVER (Observatory) continued his great run of form that he has enjoyed over the past year or so when his smart son TEAM GOLD claimed the Listed Topbet Spring Spree Stakes (1200m) at Turffontein on Saturday.

The Roy Magner trained four-year-old had won two of his previous three starts leading into Saturday’s Listed feature and duly followed up with a courageous effort in the R175 000 feature.

Under replacement rider JP Van Der Merwe, Team Gold flew up down the outside of the track to snab the front running, G2 4Rracing SA Nursery winner SHEELA (The United States) and score by a long neck, with last season’s G2 Post Merchants winner VAL D’ORCIA (Vercingetorix) a further length and three-quarters away in third. Owned by Tyrone Barnard, the progressive Team Gold was bred by Ridgemont Highlands.

The gelding, now a four time winner, was a R160 000 buy from the 2020 National 2YO Sale.

Team Gold is bred on the same Twice Over/Kingmambo cross as G2 Track And Ball Oaks winner MOON IN JUNE.

His four time G1 winning sire had a wonderful season in 2021-2022, when Twice Over sired stakes winners included G1 Cape Guineas winner DOUBLE SUPERLATIVE and fellow graded stakes winners DO IT AGAIN and SMORGASBORD.
