Klawervlei Stud’s consistently successful sire POMODORO (Jet Master) had another good double when his daughter CARALLUMA and son IMMEASURABLE won their respective races at the Vaal on Tuesday.
Both Caralluma and Immeasurable, like Pomodoro himself, are trained by Sean Tarry and both are Klawervlei Stud bred gallopers who race for the Hollywood Syndicate.
Caralluma, who showed top-class form at two, showed a return to her better form when she downed a smart field to land a conditions plate over 1450m on Tuesday. Under Joshwin Solomons, the Pomodoro filly kicked on nicely in the closing stages to get up and win, a shade cosily, by a neck, with the likes of former G3 Fillies Mile runner up MISS ELEGANCE (Master Of My Fate) and G3 Fillies Mile winner FOLLOW ME (Gimmethegreenlight) among her beaten rivals. Caralluma rated among the better two-year-old fillies of her year, winning the Listed Devon Air Stakes and finishing second in the G2 Zulu Kingdom Explorer Golden Slipper.
Pomodoro came up with his second winner on Tuesday when his gelded son IMMEASURABLE made all to win a fine race over 1800 metres. Given a fine ride by Keagan De Melo, Immeasurable kept finding more in the closing stages to win by over a length and a quarter.
His G1 Vodacom Durban July winning sire had gone close to having feature race success on Saturday when Pomodoro’s high-class son BLACK THORN ran a close up second in the G3 The Citizen Gold Bowl.
South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2017-2018, Pomodoro also has some very smart two-year-olds to his name this season including G3 Kenilworth Fillies Nursery winner EPSOM GIRL and brilliant debut winner GOLDEN PROSPECT.
