Klawervlei Stud’s successful, July winning stallion POMODORO (Jet Master) made his presence felt at the Vaal on Tuesday. Not only was Pomodoro sire of two of the four winners on the card, Pomodoro sons ran first and third in Tuesday’s third race.
Lightly raced filly ESCAPE ARTIST, who, like Pomodoro, races for Sean Tarry and Chris Van Niekerk, provided Pomodoro with his first success on the card when she got off the mark at just the third time of asking on Tuesday. Under Lyle Hewitson, the Klawervlei Stud bred three-year-old ran on nicely to break maiden by nearly a length and a quarter, with a convincing win over 1200 metres.
Also racing for Sean and Chris, the Klawervlei Stud bred INDELIBLE confirmed the promise he had shown in his first two starts when he ran out a comfortable winner of theVaal’s fourth race on Tuesday afternoon. Under a strong ride from Lyle Hewitson, the three-year-old Pomodoro colt stayed on strongly to account for UNCLE MO (Indian Charlie) colt MOTOWN MAGIC by three-parts of a length, with Pomodoro colt MICHELIN STAR finishing third. Bred by Klawervlei Stud, Indelible had finished a close up third on debut, before finishing second to the promising HAPPY AND GLORIOUS (Gimmethegreenlight) on his only subsequent appearance.
South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2017-2018, Pomodoro has some very well bred lots on the upcoming CTS Ready To Run Sale. They include a half-sister (Lot 16) to Listed Secretariat Stakes winner PAISLEY PARK, a colt (Lot 37) out of useful racemare MIA JOSHUA, and a half-brother (Lot 77) to triple graded stakes winner DEPARDIEU.
