Klawervlei Stud’s four time G1 winning stallion TWICE OVER (Observatory) has made a flying start to the new season, and the former champion struck again over the weekend, when Twice Over was responsible for two more winners.
Twice Over’s first winner came on Friday where his son TWICE A SAINT romped home to break his maiden in eye catching style at Fairview. Under Wayne Agrella, the Cliffie Miller trained gelding bounded away to land Friday’s Lessing Heyns and Van Der Bank Attorneys Inc Maiden Plate (1400m) by an emphatic four and a quarter lengths. The Klawervlei bred Twice A Saint, who races for Mr Miller, had finished second in each of his three starts prior to Friday’s win and was well rewarded for consistency.
Classy four-year-old TRIPLE TIME, one of four runners to represent his sire in last season’s G1 Splashout Cape Derby, showed his well being when downing a high-class field to land the Hollywoodbets Durbanville Country Series Cape A Stakes at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Saturday. Under Sean Veale, the Justin Snaith trained gelding flew up late to beat last season’s G3 WSB Legal Eagle Stakes winner ITSRAININGWILLIAM (William Longsword) by a head, with the likes of SACHDEV (2nd ARF Commemorative Cape Derby, Gr.1), LINEBACKER (Cape Derby, Gr.1, Daily News 2000, Gr.1), and FIREALLEY (Peninsula Handicap), among those further back in running.
Bred by Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm, Triple Time provided his owner Nick Jonsson with a second win on Durbanville’s card, with Nick having also won the first race on Saturday with TRIPTOTHEWOODS (Trippi).
Twice Over also gained a handsome update to his pedigree page, with close relative PRIMEVAL (Lope De Vega) making it two wins from two starts when victorious at Windsor on Sunday. A three-year-old daughter of G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud winner PASSAGE OF TIME (Dansili), Primeval had to come around rivals to gain a slender lead passing the furlong pole and despite having only a short head to spare over LAOISMAN (Night Of Thunder) at the line was ultimately a snug winner of Sunday’s Ossie And Hutch Memorial Novice Stakes.
Her dam, also dam of four time group winner and successful sire TIME TEST (Dubawi), is out of the Sadler’s Wells mare CLEPSYDRA, a half-sister to the Lingfield Oaks Trial winning dam of Twice Over.
