Klawervlei Stud’s homebred stallion WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) had a wonderful season in 2022-2023 and the former Cape Guineas winner’s good form has continued into the new season. William Longsword continued his winning streak when he was responsible for two more winners over the past weekend.

His first success this weekend came when William Longsword gelding SIRNIHAALLONGSWORD ran out a convincing winner at Fairview on Friday afternoon. Trained by Lunga Gila, Sirnihaallongsword hit the front 100m from home in Friday’s TAB 4Racing App Classified Stakes (1400m), and, under Ashton Arries, kept going gamely to record a one length win. Bred by Klawervlei Stud, the Trinisha Pillay owned Sirnihaallongsword has won three of his last six starts.

William Longsword struck again when his son BENNI IN THE AREA won Sunday’s first race at Hollywoodbets Greyville. Under Richard Fourie, the Gary Rich trained gelding hit the front a long way from home and kept going well to claim the Welcome To PinkDrive Charity Racemeeting Maiden Plate (1200m) by over a length and three-quarters. Bred by Winterbach Stud and Collins Stud Farm, Benni In The Area had finished second and third in his two previous starts, with his win on Sunday a reward for his consistency.Benni In The Area races for the Hollywood Syndicate.

Also responsible for last season’s stakes winners ITSRAININGWILLIAM, LORD WILLIAM and VIRGINIA SWEET, William Longsword has five lots on offer at Sunday’s Cape Racing Ready To Run And Unbroken Two Year Old Sale, including a half-brother (Lot 31) to stakes winners GIMME DAT (Gimmethegreenlight) and GREEN HAZE (Gimmethegreenlight), and a filly (Lot 91) whose dam is a sister to the Klawervlei Stud bred outstanding sire VERCINGETORIX (Silvano).
