Klawervlei Stud’s homebred sire WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) had a good weekend this past week, when supplying two winners in KwaZulu-Natal.
Not only did William Longsword filly SLEEK AS SILK win a good race at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Friday evening, another William Longsword daughter, BERENGARIA, caught the eye when successful at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday afternoon.
Trained by Paul Lafferty, three-year-old Sleek As Silk followed up a second place effort over 1000m when she ran out a convincing winner on Friday night. The William Longsword daughter stayed on too strongly for her rivals and went on to land the GTH 50/50 Dash Maiden Plate (F&M) (1200m) by nearly a length and a half. Bred by The Alchemy, Sleek As Silk races for John Finlayson.
Her G1 Cape Guineas winning sire struck again on Sunday, when William Longsword filly Berengaria swooped down to land the Nanxing Brick and Tiles Maiden Plate (F&M) (1400m) at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. Under Ryan Munger, the Barend Botes and Yolandie Vosloo trained three-year-old powered home to score by half a length, with Berengaria having finished second last time out.
Bred, like her sire, by Klawervlei, Berengaria races for Messrs P Z Oberholzer, W J Coates, E P Scheepers, B H Martin & Ms V Queen.
Already sire of the likes of G2 Epol Umkhomazi Stakes winner DYCE and fellow stakes winners BON VIVANT and HASTA MANANA, William Longsword has four lots on offer at the upcoming August Two Year Old Sale.
