Klawervlei Stud’s four time G1 winning sire TWICE OVER (Observatory) has made a fine start to the 2023-2024 racing season, and the former champion struck again when Twice Over came up with a trio of winners at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Saturday.

Remarkably, Twice Over sons won the third, fourth and fifth races at Durbanville on Saturday, giving their sire a rare hattrick in the process.

The Adam Marcus trained OLIVER got off the mark when he flew up late, under Craig Zackey, to win Saturday’s Cape Racing Sales Maiden Plate (1400m) by a long neck going away. Bred by Klawervlei Stud, the blue blooded son of Twice Over, who had finished second, third or fourth in each of his four previous starts, is owned by Bernard Kantor.

Twice Over’s recent Listed Hollywoodbets Settlers Trophy winning son SENSO UNICO once again showed his well being when he ran out a courageous winner of the Genuine Ennion Syndicate Class 2 on Saturday. Under a great ride from Oswald Noach, the Vaughan Marshall trained gelding fought on doggedly in the closing stages to claim his fourth career win by a head. Owned by Alec and the Honourable Gillian Foster, the Alec Foster bred Senso Unico has now earned more than R500 000 in prize money.

Twice Over is also the sire of the progressive four-year-old MUCHO DINERO, who made it back to back wins when he won Saturday’s Cape Turf Club Syndicates Cape B Stakes over 2000 metres. Under Grant Van Niekerk, the Justin Snaith trained gelding powered home to score by just under half a length, with the Nick Jonsson owned gelding taking his tally of wins to four in the process. Bred by Drakenstein Stud, Mucho Dinero (himself a R1 400 000 yearling buy) is out of a mare by Casey Tibbs and is thus bred on the same Twice Over/Casey Tibbs cross as retired champion and dual G1 Vodacom Durban July winner DO IT AGAIN as well as the dual stakes winner YOUNG LOVE.

Also sire of last season’s dual G1 winner SEE IT AGAIN, Twice Over has a single lot on offer at this week’s Cape Racing Ready To Run And Unbroken Two Year Old Sale.
