Klawervlei’s homebred G1 Cape Guineas winner WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) has had a wonderful season this year, and he looks to have a smart two-year-old to his name in the form of ICE STAR.

The latter made it two wins from just four starts when scoring a smart win in open company at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Monday afternoon.

Given a polished ride by S’manga Khumalo, Ice Star was always travelling smoothly in Monday’s race, before hitting the front 300m from home. From there, the William Longsword filly powered away to win impressively by over two lengths.

Bred by Lammerskraal Stud, the Fabian Habib trained Ice Star (who was making her first start at Greyville on Monday) had won on debut and she looks a progressive sort in the making.

Ice Star is owned by Tri-Deal Sixteen CC (Nom: Mr Z L Nassif), Messrs M G Bothma, Andre Fouche, G, K & M M Nassif, G J Nassif & J Nassif.

She is one of six two-year-old winners for William Longsword this year, with the son of Captain Al’s other juvenile winners in 2022-2023 including such useful sorts as DUMBLEDORE, FIBONACCI and KUPHOLIWE.

William Longsword, whose G1 winning half-sister REAL PRINCESS (Trippi) is the dam of impressive recent G1 Golden Horse Sprint winner GIMME A PRINCE (Gimmethegreenlight), has two colts on offer at the upcoming KZN Yearling Sale.
