Klawervlei Stud bred thoroughbreds enjoyed good success at Turffontein on Saturday.
Not only did the Klawervlei bred SECRETARY BIRD (Rafeef) win Saturday’s Listed Wilgerbosdrift Ruffian Stakes, but the Klawervlei Stud bred champions ONE WORLD (Captain Al) and VERCINGETORIX (Silvano) are the sires of WORLD ATTRACTION, winner of Saturday’s Listed TAB Storm Bird Stakes, and GRAND EMPIRE, victorious in the same day’s G1 HKJC World Pool SA Classic respectively.

Promising two-year-old Secretary Bird made it two wins from just three starts when she won the Ruffian Stakes (1000m) on Saturday.
Under Ryan Munger, the Sean Tarry trained filly exploded through late to draw off and win convincingly by two and a quarter lengths.

Owned by the ASSM Racing Syndicate, Secretary Bird is a full-sister to the useful performer TINTIN (Rafeef).

Saturday’s winner is out of SECRETARIAT’S GIRL (Captain Al), a five time winning own sister to the stakes winning dam of the Klawervlei bred G1 South African Fillies Sprint winner MIA MOO (Vercingetorix).

Secretariat’s Girl, also closely related to multiple stakes winner MELTING MOMENTS (Captain Al), has a Futura filly (Lot 83) on offer at the upcoming Premier Yearling Sale.

The Klawervlei Stud bred I’M A FIREBALL (Vercingetorix) confirmed the promise he had shown earlier in his career when he won the March Stakes at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday.

Trained by Mike and Mathew de Kock (Mike having trained both of I’m A Fireball’s parents), I’m A Fireball was given a superb ride by Callan Murray in Sunday’s feature race.
Murray quickly took his mount to the front, and kept I’m A Fireball going strongly for the pair to hold off ROLAND GARROS (Vercingetorix) and win by nearly half a length.
Owned by Hollywood Racing, the classy I’m A Fireball has won two of his last three starts and looks to be well above average.

The gelding is certainly bred to be good. A son of the Klawervlei Stud bred champion and champion sire Vercingetorix, I’m A Fireball is out of the top-class racemare GIBRALTAR BLUE (Rock Of Gibraltar), whose seven wins (four of which came in graded stakes races) including the G2 KRA Fillies Guineas. To date, Gibraltar Blue has produced seven winners including I’m A Fireball and his full-sister CULLINAN BLUE (Vercingetorix). The latter was beaten less than a length when finishing third in the 2024 Listed Betway Swallow Stakes.

This is also the family of promising three-year-old THESECRETADVERSARY (St Mark’s Basilica), who holds an entry for the 2026 G1 Betfred Derby.

Klawervlei Stud will be offering a Vercingetorix full-sister to I’m A Fireball and Cullinan Blue at the Premier Yearling Sale later this month, and she promises to attract plenty of attention!

Hopes are high for the promising three-year-old DIOGENES (Hawwaam), a close relative of Klawervlei Stud’s exciting young stallion KOMMETDIEDING (Elusive Fort).

Diogenes picked up his second win from his last four starts when he won a good race at Turffontein on Thursday.
The Weichong Marwing trained gelding was given a fine ride by Muzi Yeni in the SA Derby 4 April MR 70 Handicap (1600m).

Yeni brought Diogenes with a well timed challenge and the pair kept going to score by nearly half a length.
After the race, the winning trainer said he had high hopes for his charge, with Diogenes holding an entry in the upcoming HKJC World Pool SA Classic.

Bred by Riethuiskraal Stud, the progressive Diogenes races for Mr Havenga.

The gelding is out of the well performed CAPTAINOFMYSOUL (Captain Al), a three-parts sister to triple G1 winner CAPTAIN AMERICA and the stakes placed dam of Kommetdieding.

The latter, one of the best horses of his generation, has seven lots on offer at Sunday’s Cape Yearling Sale including a colt (Lot3) closely inbred to Captain Al, and a colt (Lot44) out of a four time winning daughter of MORE THAN READY (Southern Halo).

Kommetdieding has a top-class draft on offer at the Premier Yearling Sale, including a half-sister (Lot 17) to the smart NORTH POINT (William Longsword), and a half-sister (Lot 115) to three stakes winners led by G2 winner CELTIC RUMOURS (Vercingetorix).

Klawervlei Stud’s homebred stallion WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) looks to have come up with another smart performer in the form of STONEYWOOD.

The latter, a full-brother to 2024 G1 World Pool Cape Flying Championship winner DYCE (William Longsword), made it two wins from his last three starts when Stoneywood won at Turffontein on Saturday.
Trained, like Dyce, by Lucky Houdalakis, the progressive three-year-old was given a fine, positive ride by Marco Van Rensburg in Saturday’s Drakenstein Stud MR 84 Handicap (1160m).
Always up with the pace, Stoneywood kicked again in the closing stage which saw the William Longsword gelding go on to win by over three-parts of a length.

Bred and owned by David Shawe, Stoneywood has won or finished second in five of his six starts and he looks progressive.

His G1 Cape Guineas winning sire William Longsword is also the sire of another smart sophomore in the form of ROYAL KINGDOM. The latter ran second in the Listed Ibhayi Stakes at Fairview on Friday.

From one of the best families in the South African stud book, William Longsword has a single lot on offer at the Cape Yearling Sale -a filly (Lot 64), closely inbred to FORT WOOD (Sadler’s Wells), from the family of multiple G1 winning filly HAPPYANUNOIT (Yachtie).

Promising three-year-old ERROL FLYNN (Master Of My Fate), who hails from the same family as Klawervlei Stud’s exciting young sire KOMMETDIEDING (Elusive Fort), made a big impression when winning at Turffontein on Saturday.

Under Mickaelle Michel, the Joe Soma trained gelding was dropped out early. Despite running green, Errol Elynn unleashed a fine turn of foot which saw the sophomore get up close home and win going away by three lengths.
Bred by Sandra Michelle Ajax & Target Acquired, Errol Flynn has now won two of three starts, with the gelding having won his last two starts by seven and a half lengths.

The son of Master Of My Fate races for the Wernars Family, Dayalan Chinsammy and TKP Racing.

Errol Flynn is directly descended in female line from the prolific broodmare QUEEN OF LIGHT (Borealis), who also ranks the ancestress of Kommetdieding.

Winner of both the 2021 G1 Vodacom Durban July and 2022 G1 World Sports Betting Cape Town Met, Kommetdieding has some exceptionally well bred yearlings on offer at the Premier Yearling Sale.

His Premier Sale draft includes a half-sister (Lot 17) to the promising NORTH POINT (William Longsword), a filly whose A.P. Indy sired granddam hails from the family of A.P. INDY (Seattle Slew), and a colt (Lot 92) out of a stakes winning daughter of SILVANO (Lomitas).

Klawervlei Stud’s blue blooded stallion WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) looks to have a classy sort on his hands in the form of NORTH POINT.
The latter made a big impression when winning at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Wednesday and North Point looks to have a bright future ahead of him.

The James Crawford trained three-year-old was always up with the pace in Wednesday’s Lucky Fish Monopoly Live B Stakes (1000m).
North Point kept finding in the closing stages, under a strong ride from JP Van Der Merwe, and the grey stayed on to score by half a length.

Bred by the Klawervlei Grooms Trust, North Point has won three of his five starts for owners Greg and Gina Bortz.

The gelding, who is out of LITTLE BRISTOL (Speightstown), has a KOMMETDIEDING (Elusive Fort) half-sister on offer at the upcoming Premier Yearling Sale.

His G1 Cape Guineas winning sire William Longsword, whose outstanding relative THE REAL PRINCE (Gimmethegreenlight) ran third in the recent G1 World Sports Betting Cape Town Met, has a single lot on offer at the Cape Yearling Sale.
