Klawervlei Stud’s bang inform stallion WILLLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) is having a great season in 2023-2024, and the former Cape Guineas winner’s fine run continued when William Longsword supplied an eye catching debut winner at Turffontein on Thursday.
William Longsword’s two-year-old daughter MISS SCALETTA made the perfect start to her racing career when she won Thursday’s 4Racing Welcomes You Juvenile Plate (Fillies) over 1200 metres.
Under Philasande Mxoli, the Paul Matchett trained filly raced at the back of the field for much of Thursday’s race before storming down the inside of the track to score by two and a half lengths on debut.
Bred by Varsfontein Stud, Miss Scaletta races for Sarah Clarke. Bred to enjoy further, Miss Scaletta looks to be an exciting prospect for the season ahead.
William Longsword went close to having a double at Turffontein on Thursday with his daughter LIKE A BUTTERFLY finishing second in third race and another daughter ZENOBIA’S GOLD filling the runner up berth in the fourth race.
The sire of this season’s graded stakes winning sprinters DYCE and RULERSHIP is also the sire of another exciting two-year-old filly in the form of GOLDEN CHANDELIER.
The latter made it back to back wins when winning at Hollywoodbets Greyville recently and Golden Chandelier looks a potential feature race contender in the making.
Her sire William Longsword has four lots on offer at the 2024 National Yearling Sale including a colt (Lot 303) out of a stakes winning daughter of TRIPPI (End Sweep), the sire of William Longsword’s G1 winning half-sister REAL PRINCESS.
