Klawervlei Stud’s four time G1 winning sire TWICE OVER (Observatory), who enjoyed such a wonderful season in 2021-2022, struck twice on Friday afternoon, with Twice Over supplying winners in two different provinces.

Twice Over’s first success on Friday came when his Gavin Smith trained son MACTAVISH ran out a convincing winner of the second race at Fairview. Under Calvin Habib, the Twice Over gelding powered away to shed his maiden by three-parts of a length. Bred by the Birch Bros, Mactavish races for Mr M Z Mohungur & YDJ Trading (Pty) Ltd (Nom: Yavonqa de Jonge).

Twice Over is also the sire of the smart gelding DOUBLE MARTINI, who made it back to back wins when scoring at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Friday night. Trained and owned by Sean Tarry, the Klawervlei bred Double Martini hit the front 200m from home and, under a good ride from Kabelo Matsunyane, stayed on nicely to score by just over three-parts of a length.

Now a four time winner, Double Martini has won three and been placed twice in five of his last starts.

His sire Twice Over, whose progeny also include dual G1 Vodacom Durban July winner DO IT AGAIN,  enjoyed tremendous success in 2021-2022 with his six black type winners last season headed by G1 Cape Guineas winner DOUBLE SUPERLATIVE.

A former European champion himself, Twice Over has two lots on offer at the upcoming August Two Year Old Sale.
