Klawervlei Stud’s triple G1 winning stallion CAPTAIN OF ALL (Captain Al) looks to have an outstanding three-year-old this season in the form of the Klawervlei Stud bred LINEBACKER.
The latter picked up his third graded win in a row when running out a convincing winner of Saturday’s G1 Daily News 2000 to stamp himself as arguably the best male three-year-old currently in training.
Under Grant Van Niekerk, Linebacker powered down the outside of the Hollywoodbets Greyville track before going on to score by nearly three-parts of a length.
He was saddled to victory by Vaughan Marshall, who also saddled runner up RASCALLION (himself a son of the Klawervlei Stud bred champion VERCINGETORIX).
The 2021 Daily News 2000 was yet another triumph for Klawervlei, who not only bred the winner but also bred third place finisher KOMMETDIEDING (Elusive Fort).
Winner of the G1 Jonsson Workwear Cape Derby and G2 World Sports Betting Guineas in his two previous starts, Linebacker races for Cheryl Gabler in partnership with Ken and Jane Truter.
Yet to finish out of the top two (he has finished first or second in seven graded races), Linebacker has now won four of just eight starts for earnings in excess of R1.4 million.
A R425 000 buy from the 2019 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, Linebacker was one of two winners for Captain Of All on Saturday. The latter is also the sire of GILLIAN ANNE, who won a good race when landing the sixth race at Kenilworth on Saturday for owner-trainer Peter Wrensch, jockey Oswald Noach and breeders Klipdrif Stud.
South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2018-2019, Captain Of All has ten lots on the upcoming CTS Farm Yearling Sale, and three lots on the KZN Yearling Sale.
