Klawervlei Stud’s G1 Cape Guineas winner WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) looks to have come up with a top-class son in the form of BACK IN BUSINESS.
The latter made it three wins on the bounce, and back to back feature race triumphs, when he won the G2 Betway Spring Challenge (1450m) at Turffontein on Saturday afternoon.
Trained by Joe Soma, five-year-old Back In Business was given a superb ride by Rachel Venniker to land Saturday’s R550 000 feature race.
Venniker bought Back In Business with a strong late run down the inside of the track, and the pair got up to score by a length and a half. His beaten rivals included such high-class graded stakes winners as GLADATORIAN (Vercingetorix), WILLIAM ROBERTSON (Rafeef), MAIN DEFENDER (Pathfork) and PURPLE PITCHER (New Predator).
Bred by Klawervlei Stud, Back In Business, one of two runners in the Spring Challenge for his sire, has won six of 11 starts, with the gelding having earned R725 750 in prize money.
Back In Business, who races for ANOA (Pty) Ltd, had won the Listed Betway Spring Spree Stakes, prior to his G2 win on Saturday.
His inform sire William Longsword went close to having a double on Saturday with his son MARVEL WILLIAM finishing a close up third in the seventh race at Hollywoodbets Durbanville.
William Longsword is also the sire of star sprinter DYCE, who made it back to back wins when romping home, under 62kgs, to a two length win earlier in the week.
