Klawervlei Stud’s G1 July/G1 Met winning sire KOMMETDIEDING (Elusive Fort) hails from an exceptional female line and this family was in the headlines yet again on Sunday.
Unbeaten three-year-old LOOK DE VEGA (Lope De Vega), like Kommetdieding a descendant of CHANDELIER (Goyama) showed his class when he won Sunday’s G1 Qatar Prix du Jockey Club (French Derby) at Chantilly.
Unbeaten in three Look De Vega, who was emulating his sire in winning the French classic, notched the French Derby in style for Carlos and Yann Lerner and Ronan Thomas, leaving his perfect record intact at Chantilly in the feature.
One of the market leaders along with Aidan O’Brien’s Diego Velazquez, the colt came into the race with two comfortable prior victories under his belt.
He broke well from the stalls and settled in behind the front runners under Ronan Thomas, keeping his powder dry until the home straight when others began to falter.
Then he picked up the lead, surging clear in the final two furlongs to cross the line comfortably ahead of First Look.
Look De Vega was cut from 33-1 into 8-1 for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe following his win on Sunday.
This family was in the news earlier in the year when TUZ (Oxbow) won the G1 Dubai Golden Shaheen. Tuz, like Kommetdieding and Look De Vega, is a direct descendant of QUEEN OF LIGHT (Borealis).
An exceptional racehorse, Kommetdieding won the G1 Vodacom Durban July in 2021, and the G1 World Sports Betting Cape Town Met the following year.
