The Klawervlei Stud bred MIA MOO (Vercingetorix) picked up a well deserved first graded victory when she won the G3 4Racing Sycamore Sprint (1160m) at Turffontein on Saturday. Under a great ride from Piere Strydom, the four-year-old raced just off the pace early on, before being unleashed by Strydom 150m from home.
From there, Mia Moo stayed on strongly to score by half a length. Remarkably, both Mia Moo and Sycamore runner up KOMATI RIVER were sired by the Klawervlei bred champion and star stallion VERCINGETORIX (Silvano).
Trained by Sean Tarry, Mia Moo has won four of 14 starts, with Saturday’s win taking her earnings to R488,325. Mia Moo races for Sandy and Eugene Arundel in partnership with World Sports Betting. The filly, who had finished second in the 2024 G3 Umzimkhulu Stakes, was a R300 000 purchase from the 2022 KZN Yearling Sale.
The 2025 Sycamore Sprint winner was produced by Listed Irridescence Stakes winner LEEWARD (Captain Al) (whose full-sister is the dam of current classy galloper POMODORO’S JET (Pomodoro)), with Mia Moo bred on the same Vercingetorix/Captain Al cross as G1 winners DOUBLE GRAND SLAM and VERNICHEY, high-class sprinter GOLDEN SICKLE and smart Hong Kong performer SUPER COMMANDER.
