Klawervlei Stud’s successful sire POMODORO (Jet Master) has enjoyed a good few days, supplying winners at Turffontein and Hollywoodbets Scottsville, with the former G1 Vodacom Durban July responsible for two winners at Scottsville on Monday afternoon.

Pomodoro looks to have a smart two-year-old to his name in the form of WOODLAND RETREAT, with the latter putting up a good display to win the first race on Monday. The Michael Miller trained filly, second on her only other appearance, went one better on Monday, with Woodland Retreat staying on strongly, under S’Manga Khumalo, to shed her maiden by a neck. Bred by the Waterford Stud, Woodland Retreat races for Messrs Sahd and Sterling Miller.

Trainer Dean Kannemeyer is no stranger to the progeny of Pomodoro having trained the latter’s son RUSSIAN ROCK to land the 2020 G1 Cape Racing Presents The Cape Guineas, and he enjoyed more success with Pomodoro on Monday courtesy of the Klawervlei sire’s son LOVE ON TIME. The latter fought out a thrilling finish to the fourth race, and just managed to edge out PREEMPTIVE STRIKE (Twice Over) and win by a head. Bred by Erasmus Thoroughbreds CC, Love On Time, who races for Dr Sin, has now won two of his last four starts.

South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2017-2018, Pomodoro had also enjoyed success at Turffontein on Saturday where his Klawervlei Stud bred daughter ESCAPE ARTIST won the first race for Sean Tarry, Keagan De Melo and the Hollywood Syndicate.

Pomodoro has 14 lots on offer at the upcoming Cape Premier Yearling Sale, and a further four lots on the Cape Yearling Sale.
