Klawervlei Stud’s G1 Cape Guineas winning sire WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) has made a promising start to his stud career.
From just three first-crop runners thus far, William Longsword has already had two first-timers finish in the money, with his son SAFE RETURN finishing second, on debut, over 1000m on Cape Town Met day, and daughter POPPY OF BAYEUX making a promising debut when running third, over 1100m, at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday.
A brilliant racehorse himself, William Longsword won six of only eight starts and joined the likes of his own champion sire CAPTAIN AL (Al Mufti) as well as multiple champion sire and broodmare sire JET MASTER (Rakeen) when he captured the G1 Cape Guineas.
William Longsword also downed a world-class field when he captured The CTS Mile, where the Klawervlei Stud bred bay accounted for such standout performers as AFRICAN NIGHT SKY (Dynasty), JANOOBI (Silvano), JUST SENSUAL (Dynasty), SINGAPORE SLING (Philanthropist) and TILBURY FORT (Horse Chestnut).
Himself a R2 200 000 buy from the 2015 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, William Longsword has 23 lots on offer at this year’s Premier Sale including a colt (Lot 10) out of dual G3 Track And Ball Oaks winner WITCHCRAFT (Kahal), a colt (Lot 84) out of a dual G3 winning daughter of breed shaping sire STREET CRY (Machiavellian), and a filly (Lot 157) whose G3 winning dam is a daughter of the world’s premier sire, GALILEO (Sadler’s Wells).
William Longsword, who shares his sire with impressive recent G2 World Sports Betting Gauteng Guineas winner MALMOOS, also has nine lots on offer at the upcoming Cape Yearling Sale, including a filly (Lot 23) out of G3 Umzimkhulu Stakes runner up IZORA (Western Winter), a filly (Lot 107) from the same family as William Longsword’s own sire CAPTAIN AL, and a filly (Lot 172) whose third dam is Breeders’ Cup Distaff winning champion SACAHUISTA (Raja Baba).
