Klawervlei Stud’s homebred stallion WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) continues to churn out winners and the strapping bay was at it again this weekend. Not only did William Longsword gelding IMAGINABLE win impressively at Fairview on Friday, but William Longsword came up with two smart winners at Turffontein on Saturday.
The Klawervlei resident looks to have a potentially smart two-year-old to his name in the form of TITAN OF THE TURF. The latter made an impressive winning debut when he won the third race on Saturday. Under Craig Zackey, the Tony Peter trained colt made all the running, despite losing a shoe, to win the #Youcanbetonus! Maiden Plate (1160m) by two and three quarter lengths. The race was a good one for William Longsword, with Titan Of The Turf beating fellow William Longsword son SILVER LONGSWORD into third spot. Bred by his part-owner Mrs Nicole Nassif-Zackey, the exciting Titan Of The Turf races for his breeder in partnership with Messrs W C Nassif, M F Oozeer & S Amoorgasapillay.
William Longsword’s second winner on Saturday came when his son ENSUING won the ninth and final race at Turffontein. Under Gavin Lerena, the five-year-old powered home from off the pace to get up and win the Next Turffontein Racemeeting Sunday 6 July MR 70 Handicap (1160m) by a length.
Trained by Johan Janse Van Vuuren, the Rikesh Sewgoolam owned gelding has now won five times. The well bred Ensuing, who lugged 63kgs to victory on Saturday, was bred by Laurence Wernars.
His G1 Cape Guineas winning sire has been in good form of late, with William Longsword’s son RICHARD THE FIRST winning a good race at Turffontein on Thursday.
