Klawervlei Stud’s homebred G1 Cape Guineas winner WILLIAM LONGSWORD has some very smart looking two-year-olds this season and the son of Captain Al came up with yet another good looking two-year-old winner at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Tuesday.

His son BILLY COOL caught the eye when storming home from off the pace to get up and win the Cape Racing Sales Maiden Juvenile Plate (1000m) in smart fashion. Bought with a strong run by Grant Van Niekerk, the gelded two-year-old hit the front full of run and stayed on to win by two lengths.

Bred by Klawervlei Stud, Billy Cool was making his third start on Tuesday, with the juvenile having finished third on his previous start.

Described by his trainer Ricky Maingard as a “good horse and a very good looking horse” in the post-race interview, Billy Cool races for the Wolf Power Syndicate.

He joins the likes of COMMANDING, GOLDEN CHANDELIER and MISS SCALETTA as two-year-old winners for his sire in 2023-2024.

William Longsword also hails from a remarkable female line and his family got yet another boost when champion FUTURE PEARL (whose third dam WILD HYACINTH also ranks as William Longsword’s third dam) won the recent G3 Tabgold Derby.

Last season’s Equus Champion Stayer, Future Pearl is likely to run next in the G1 Hollywoodbets Durban July.

William Longsword is enjoying a wonderful season in 2023-2024, with his flagbearers this season headed by G1 World Pool Cape Flying Championship winner DYCE, G3 Betway Lebelo Sprint hero RULERSHIP and Listed Secretariat Stakes victor SABRE STRIKE.
