For a second year running, a Klawervlei Stud based stallion provided the winner of the Listed Southeaster Sprint, when CAPTAIN OF ALL filly KISS ME CAPTAIN won the 2023 renewal on Saturday.

Last year, the Listed Southeaster Sprint had been won by RESONATE, a son of Klawervlei’s top-class stallion TWICE OVER.

Winner of the 2023 Listed Swallow Stakes, the Michael and Adam Azzie trained Kiss Me Captain looked a picture before the race and she lived up to expectations when powering home to account for some very speedy rivals and claim Saturday’s 1000m sprint by half a length. Ridden to victory by Richard Fourie, the classy four-year-old was bred by the late Kevin Soal, who owned Kiss Me Captain in partnership with Courtney Soal.

Also runner up in both the G2 World Sports Betting Camellia Stakes and G3 Sycamore Sprint last season, Kiss Me Captain took her earnings to nearly R500 000 with her win on Saturday.

South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2018-2019, Captain Of All has six lots on offer at the 2023 November Two Year Old Sale.
