Fresh off recording a double at the Vaal on Thursday, Klawervlei Stud’s inform stallion POMODORO (Jet Master) had another good result on Saturday. This time, it was Pomdoro’s son SCALLYWAG to impress, with the Tony Peter trained Scallywag running out a game winner of the seventh race at Turffontein on Saturday. In the process, Scallywag made it three wins on the bounce, with the Pomodoro sired three-year-old having captured both of his last two starts.
Under a good ride from Denis Schwarz, Scallywag showed plenty of courage in holding off runner up TAMARISK TREE (Ideal World) and landing the Play Soccer 6,10 and 13 MR 82 Handicap (1600m) by a convincing three-parts of a length. Bred by Maine Chance Farms, the Suzette Viljoen owned Scallywag is unbeaten since relocating to Gauteng.
Pomodoro went close to having another double on Saturday with his daughter RED CARPET GIRL finishing a creditable second in the fourth race on the card.
It was also a good day for Pomodoro relatives, with RAINBOW REWARD (whose granddam is a half-sister to Pomodoro) victorious in the second race at Turffontein on Saturday.
