Klawervlei Stud’s homebred G1 Cape Guineas winner WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) dominated proceedings at Turffontein on Thursday. William Longsword sired runners won three of the ten races run on Thursday, with the Klawervlei sire’s runners winning races five, six and nine respectively.
The Klawervlei sire’s first success on Thursday came when his two-year-old daughter HOPSCOTCH won the For Hospitality Bookings Call 011 681 1796 Maiden Plate (F and M) over 1800m. Under Gavin Lerena, the Fanie Bronkhurst trained Hopscotsch stayed on gamely to break her maiden by half a length.
Bred by Varsfontein Stud, Hopscotch races for her trainer and Mr C Potgieter. She is bred on the same William Longsword/Judpot cross as smart performers JUST BE LEKKER and SAFE RETURN.
William Longsword struck again in the very next race when his son MIZZEN SWORD romped home to land the Racing Today Maiden Plate (1800m) by two and a quarter lengths. The Mark Khan trained three-year-old was ridden to victory by Jarryd Penny. Bred by Lammerskraal Stud, Mizzen Sword is owned by Mark Khan Racing (Pty) Ltd.
William Longsword’s third success on Thursday came when his daughter STREISAND made much of the running to land the Play Soccer 6,10 And 13 FM 80 Divided Handicap (1600m) by over a length and a quarter. Given a fine ride by Kaidan Brewer, the Robyn Klaasen trained three-year-old was winning for a third time. Bred by Klawervlei, Streisand races for Dayalan Chinsammy and Satch Mathen.
The inform William Longsword had also enjoyed success at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Tuesday with his daughter FESTIVAL CHIC winning the seventh race on the card. Bred by Klawervlei, Festival Chic has won three of just eight starts.
