Klawervlei Stud’s G1 Cape Guineas winning stallion WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) has been enjoying a fine patch of success of late.
The Klawervlei resident’s good run continued on Tuesday when William Longsword came up with a pair of winners at Hollywoodbets Greyville. William Longsword sired runners won two of the first three races run on Tuesday, with the stallion’s sons SWORD SPEED and ROLLO THE VIKING victorious in races one and three respectively.
Promising three-year-old Sword Speed got off the mark at just the second time of asking when he won Tuesday’s Join The Social Squad Syndicate today www.socialsquad.co.za Maiden Plate (1600m). Under Anthandiwe Mgudlwa, the Alyson Wright trained gelding came with a sustained run to get up and win by a neck. (Runner up to Sword Speed, DESERT DOG, hails from the same family as William Longsword!). Bred by Klawervlei, the Rob Champion owned Sword Speed, who is bred on the same cross as the recently retired G1 winner DYCE (William Longsword) had finished second, beaten a short-head, on his only other outing.
William Longsword is also the sire of Rollo The Viking, who won Tuesday’s In The Box Seat Podcast Brought To You By Gallop TV Middle Stakes (1400m). Trained by Nathan Kotzen, the four-year-old stormed home to win Tuesday’s contest by over a length and a half, under a good ride from Dezahn Louw. Owned by Sid Moodley, Rollo The Viking, who was bred by Sandra Michelle Ajax and Target Acquired, made it back to back wins with his latest victory.
His inform sire looks to have another smart sort to his name in the form of ROYAL KINGDOM. That three-year-old made it three wins in a row when he won the recent Guineas Plate at Fairview.
