Klawervlei Stud’s home bred stallion WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) came up with a trio of winners over the weekend.

On Friday, William Longsword filly TARTAN QUEEN got off the mark when victorious in the first race at Fairview. Trained by Gavin Smith, the three-year-old kept finding, under Craig Zackey, to land the Betway Maiden Plate (F and M) (1400m) by a length and a half. Bred by Riverton Stud, Tartan Queen races for Messrs C P Murphy & J A Carr.

Her sire William Longsword struck twice at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Saturday. Not only did the G1 Cape Guineas winner’s son DUMBLEDORE win the fourth race on Saturday, but William Longsword filly CAPTAIN’S DESTINY ran out a ready winner of the tenth and final race.

Flashy grey Dumbledore was given a fine ride by Sean Veale to win Saturday’s Riethuiskraal Stud Class 3 (1250m) by just under half a length. In the process, the Vaughan Marshall trained gelding accounted for the promising three-year-old BJORN IRONSIDE -whose dam DANCE AT DAWN (Trippi) is a half-sister to William Longsword! Bred by the BBP Syndicate, Dumbledore is owned by Rikesh Sewgoolam.

William Longsword filly Captain’s Destiny picked up her second win when she won Saturday’s Hollywoodbets Bright Future Class 5 (F and M) (1250m) under Oswald Noach. Another trained by Vaughan Marshall, the filly powered home to beat previously unbeaten filly ALLTHEBOYSIVELOVED (Master Of My Fate) by a length. Bred by Klawervlei Stud, Captain’s Destiny races for the Kosters and Byron Norval.

Sire of star sprinter DYCE, among many others, William Longsword is set to be represented in Saturday’s G2 Allied Steelrode- Onamission Charity Mile by both his G2 Betway Spring Challenge winning son BACK IN BUSINESS as well as by his classy son MELECH.
