Klawervlei Stud’s inform stallion WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) is the sire of a real star in the form of DYCE. The latter showed his considerable class when romping home at the Vaal on Tuesday.

Under Piere Strydom, the Lucky Houdalakis trained gelding was always up with the pace in Tuesday’s Betway Pinnacle Stakes (1100m), and he kicked away, under a hands and heels ride, to win by two lengths.

It was a top-class performance from Dyce, who had 62kgs to carry in Tuesday’s race.

Bred and owned by David Shawe, Dyce has now won nine of 19 starts with the sprint star having banked more than R1.9 million in prize money.

His trainer said of Dyce after Tuesday’s race, “He is the best sprinter in the land.”

The gelding, unbeaten in two starts this season, won all of the G1 World Pool Cape Flying Championship, G3 New Turf Carriers Merchants and Listed Golden Loom Handicap.

William Longsword is set to be represented by his sons MELECH and BACK IN BUSINESS in Saturday’s G2 Betway Joburg Spring Challenge.

The former G1 Cape Guineas winner has three lots on offer at the 2024 Cape Racing Sales Breeze Up & Unbroken 2YO Sale, including a colt (Lot 20) from the family of G1 Kentucky Derby winner GIACOMO (Holy Bull).
