Klawervlei Stud’s homebred Cape Guineas winner WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) has made a cracking start to his stud career, and the son of Captain Al looks to have come up with a very smart daughter in the form of BON VIVANT.
The latter, a start to finish winner of the Listed Secretariat Stakes last time out, made it back to back wins with an eye catching win at Turffontein on Saturday. Under Keagan De Melo, the Johan Janse Van Vuuren trained Bon Vivant raced just off the pace in Saturday’s contest before pulling away in the closing stages to win by more than two and a quarter lengths.
Bred by Laurence Wernars, Bon Vivant has now won three of just seven starts for owners Laurence, Jarryd and Tessa Wernars.
The classy filly is a member of William Longsword’s very smart first crop, with this crop having also produced G2 Epol Umkhomazi Stakes winner DYCE, G2 Prosport International Debutante runner up REMEMBER WHEN, Listed Model Man Mile hero HASTA MANANA, and Listed #Womeninracing Sophomore Sprint second SAFE RETURN.
One of the Leading Second Season Sires in South Africa, William Longsword has 25 lots on offer at the upcoming Cape Premier Yearling Sale, including a filly (Lot 47) out of G1 Golden Slipper winner FOR THE LADS (Trippi), a colt (Lot 103) out of G3 winner OFF THE MARK (Jet Master), and a three-parts brother to multiple G1 winner LINEBACKER (Captain Of All).
