Klawervlei Stud’s G1 Cape Guineas winning sire WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) looks to have a smart two-year-old on his hands in the form of MISS SCALETTA.
The latter made it two wins from just three starts when winning at Turffontein on Thursday afternoon.
A winner on debut, the Paul Matchett trained Miss Scaletta was given a strong ride by Philasande Mxoli to land Thursday’s Highveld Champion 2-Year-Old-Colt -Fire Attack Juvenile Plate over 1600m.
The filly stayed on strongly down the inside of the track to win courageously by three-parts of a length.
Her trainer described Miss Scaletta as a “nice filly who could be a classic contender as a three-year-old” in the post-race interview.
Bred by Varsfontein Stud, Miss Scaletta is owned by Sarah Clarke.
Miss Scaletta joins the likes of COMMANDING and GOLDEN CHANDELIER as promising two-year-old winners representing William Longsword this season.
William Longsword, whose sons DYCE and MELECH both run in Saturday’s G1 Golden Horse Sprint, has five lots on offer at next week’s Cape Racing Winter Yearling Sale and a single filly on sale at the KZN Yearling Sale in July.
