Klawervlei Stud’s homebred G1 Cape Guineas winner WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) gained a handsome boost to his pedigree on Saturday.
His close relative THE REAL PRINCE (Gimmethegreenlight) showed his mettle when downing a superb field to land the G1 Hollywoodbets Durban July on Saturday.
Trained by Dean Kannemeyer, the lightly raced four-year-old was given a fine ride by Craig Zackey to win the R5 000 000 Hollywoodbets Greyville showpiece. The Real Prince powered into the lead 200m from home, and kept going gamely to hold off the resurgent favourite EIGHT ON EIGHTEEN (whose dam, like William Longsword, was sired by CAPTAIN AL) by a neck. Bred and owned by Khaya Stables, The Real Prince has won five of ten starts, with the gelding having also prevailed in the Listed City Of Cape Town Jet Master Stakes earlier this season.
Out of William Longsword’s G1 winning half-sister REAL PRINCESS (Trippi), The Real Prince is a full-brother to multiple G1 winner GIMME A PRINCE, G3 BakerMcVeigh Diana Stakes queen GIMMIE’S COUNTESS and recent debut winner GIMMIE RULES.
William Longsword himself enjoyed success on Saturday with his son ROLLO THE VIKING winning the 12th and final race on the Hollywoodbets Durban July card.
