Klawervlei Stud’s triple G1 winning CAPTAIN OF ALL (Captain Al) looks to have come up with a very smart sprinter in the form of MEU CAPITANO.
The latter made it three wins in a row when running out an impressive winner of Sunday’s Winter Sprint run at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth.
The 2024 Winter Sprint was a triumph for Captain All, with Meu Captaino and fellow Captain Of All son JERUSALEMA RAIN finishing first and third respectively.
Trained by Piet Steyn, the progressive Meu Capitano was given a confident ride by Richard Fourie in Sunday’s 1200m sprint.
Fourie unleashed the three-year-old with 200m from home, and Meu Capitano quickly responded by opening up and drawing off to win a good race by a length and a half.
In the process, the Beaumont Stud bred gelding accounted for such high-class graded stakes winners as QUESTIONING (Querari), BEREAVE (Vercingetorix), WE’RE JAMMING (Duke Of Marmalade) and Equus Champion RIO QUERARI.
Owned by Mr C A F Goncalves & Mr D Luiz, Meu Capitano has now won four of eight starts.
Earlier on the card, Captain Of All’s speedy daughter SHE’S MY CAPTAIN had picked up her fifth career when running out a game winner of the Perfectly Placed Class 4 (F and M) over1000 metres.
Under Richard Fourie (the only jockey to have won on her), the Harold Crawford/Michelle Rix trained mare produced a smart turn of foot which saw She’s My Captain get up close home and win by nearly half a length.
Bred by Klawervlei Stud, She’s My Captain races for Michelle Rix and Adrian Long.
Former Equus Champion Captain Of All has five lots on offer at the upcoming Cape Racing Winter Yearling Sale and seven lots on offer at the KZN Yearling Sale.
