Klawervlei Stud’s successful sire TWICE OVER (Observatory) struck twice at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Tuesday. Not only did Twice Over gelding THE NIGHT FERRY win the fourth race on the card, but Twice Over’s daughter TWO A PENNY romped home to a fluent win in the following race.

The Night Ferry provided trainer Herman Brown with a winner from his first comeback runner when he won the Reeves Racing Syndicate Open Maiden (1600m) on Tuesday. Formerly trained by Justin Snaith, The Night Ferry went from pillar-to-post under Grant van Niekerk and had enough in reserve to hold off the fast finishing SUPERHERO (Futura) by a long neck. His sire Twice Over is also responsible for Two A Penny, who romped home in Tuesday’s RaceCape Powered By Hollywoodbets C Stakes (1950m). Under Richard Fourie, the Adam Marcus trained filly never looked in danger of defeat, with Two A Penny pulling clear to win by three and a quarter lengths.Now a four time winner, the Alec Foster bred filly races for Messrs M A Govender, S S Govender & T Govender.

The inform Twice Over went close to making it a treble of wins on Tuesday with his son TAMBOURINE MAN running second in the seventh race.

Segesta, whose granddam IXORA (Dynaformer) was based at Klawervlei), provided her trainer Chad Brown with a sixth consecutive win in the Matchmaker Stakes. Ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr., Segesta had to knuckle down as the finish line approached as favorite SACRED WISH (Not This Time) came on gamely to just miss by a neck.

With her Matchmaker score, Segesta added a second graded win to her record and scored for the first time in fourth starts since taking the G2 Wonder Again Stakes at Belmont at the Big A in May 2024. Segesta, who was produced by G1 Just A Game Stakes winner ANTONOE (First Defense), improved her record to 3-2-0 from eight career starts that includes a runner-up finish in last year’s Belmont Oaks Invitational (G1).

Saturday’s winner’s fifth dam LOST VIRTUE (Cloudy Dawn) also ranks as the third dam of four time G1 winner TWICE OVER and the fifth dam of 2025 G1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes winner OMBUDSMAN (Night Of Thunder).

Klawervlei Stud’s homebred G1 Cape Guineas winner WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) dominated proceedings at Turffontein on Thursday. William Longsword sired runners won three of the ten races run on Thursday, with the Klawervlei sire’s runners winning races five, six and nine respectively.

The Klawervlei sire’s first success on Thursday came when his two-year-old daughter HOPSCOTCH won the For Hospitality Bookings Call 011 681 1796 Maiden Plate (F and M) over 1800m. Under Gavin Lerena, the Fanie Bronkhurst trained Hopscotsch stayed on gamely to break her maiden by half a length.
Bred by Varsfontein Stud, Hopscotch races for her trainer and Mr C Potgieter. She is bred on the same William Longsword/Judpot cross as smart performers JUST BE LEKKER and SAFE RETURN.

William Longsword struck again in the very next race when his son MIZZEN SWORD romped home to land the Racing Today Maiden Plate (1800m) by two and a quarter lengths. The Mark Khan trained three-year-old was ridden to victory by Jarryd Penny. Bred by Lammerskraal Stud, Mizzen Sword is owned by Mark Khan Racing (Pty) Ltd.

William Longsword’s third success on Thursday came when his daughter STREISAND made much of the running to land the Play Soccer 6,10 And 13 FM 80 Divided Handicap (1600m) by over a length and a quarter. Given a fine ride by Kaidan Brewer, the Robyn Klaasen trained three-year-old was winning for a third time. Bred by Klawervlei, Streisand races for Dayalan Chinsammy and Satch Mathen.

The inform William Longsword had also enjoyed success at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Tuesday with his daughter FESTIVAL CHIC winning the seventh race on the card. Bred by Klawervlei, Festival Chic has won three of just eight starts.

William Longsword’s first success came at Turffontein on Saturday, where his son BIRTHRIGHT won the eighth and final race. Trained by Alec Laird, four-year-old Birthright raced just off the pace in the Next Turffontein Racemeeting Thursday 17July MR 84 Handicap (1400m). Under Calvin Habib, Birthright hit the front 150m from home and powered away to win by a length and a quarter. The ultra consistent Birthright, who was bred by Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm, races for Messrs Cornwall, Clark and Rey.

William Longsword’s second win over the weekend came when his Duncan Howells trained son EL REY VIENE won at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday. Under a great ride from Sean Veale, the Hollywoodbets Racing owned El Rey Viene struck the front 200m from home and kept going gamely to score by a neck. The gelding, who had to shoulder 64kgs on his back, was bred by James Armitage.

William Longsword, whose close relative THE REAL PRINCE (Gimmethegreenlight) won the 2025 G1 Hollywoodbets Durban July, also enjoyed success at Turffontein on Thursday, with his sons BUMPS LAST GRIND and ENSUING both won.

Three-year-old BUMPS LAST GRIND made no mistakes on Thursday when he romped home to win the Charity Mile 1 November Maiden Plate (1000m) in convincing style.
The Fanie Bronkhurst trained gelding was given a strong ride from Jeffrey Syster, with the latter bringing Bumps Last Grind with a strong run to win going away by a length and a quarter.

Bred by Andre Hauptfleisch, Bumps Last Grind, second in three of his only four starts prior to Thursday, races for Bryan & Taryn Spong.

William Longsword sons ENSUING and CIAN THE CONQUEROR made it a good day for their sire when they ran 1-2 in Thursday’s Next Turffontein Racemeeting Saturday 12 July MR 84 Handicap (1200m). One of five winners on the day for Gavin Lerena, the Johan Janse Van Vuuren trained Ensuing made it back to back wins with a fluent one and three quarter length score on Thursday.

Owned by Rikesh Seewgoolam, the five-year-old was bred by Laurence Wernars.

The G1 Cape Guineas winning William Longsword has some very promising two-year-olds this season, including G1 World Pool Moment Of The Day Premiers Champion Stakes entrant COUNT OF ROUEN and fellow debut winner TITAN OF THE TURF.
