A WOOTTON BASSETT (Iffraaj) colt, from the immediate family of Klawervlei Stud’s four time G1 winning sire TWICE OVER (Observatory), topped Thursday’s session of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Book 1.
Consigned to the sale by Fittocks Stud, the regally bred colt (Lot 477) was sold to Godolphin for 1 900 000 guineas. The Juddmonte team provided the sheikh’s most determined adversary, but were ultimately left as the frustrated underbidder.

The colt, a half-brother to German Listed winner TOPANGA (Siyouni), continued a fine week for the Cumanis’ Fittocks Stud.

“Wootton Bassett needs no introduction and he’s from a very good farm,” said Godolphin talent scout Anthony Stroud. “Our team and our leader thought he was an exceptional horse. We had to wait until the end to get him but we’re delighted we have.”

The pricey colt is out of the placed mare TIME TUNNEL (Invincible Spirit), a daughter of G1 Falmouth Stakes winner TIMEPIECE (Zamindar).

In turn, Timepiece is a half-sister to three stakes winners notably G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud winner and high-class producer PASSAGE OF TIME (Dansili).
Timepiece’s own dam, CLEPSYDRA (Sadler’s Wells) was produced by Listed James Seymour Stakes winner QUANDARY (Blushing Groom), the granddam of TWICE OVER.

This is also the family of this season’s dual G1 winner OMBUDSMAN (Night Of Thunder), a likely contender for next Saturday’s G1 Qipco Champion Stakes.

Klawervlei Stud’s inform stallion WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) continues to churn out winners all over South Africa.
The G1 Cape Guineas winner struck twice at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Tuesday, with William Longsword’s son ROLLO THE VIKING landing the fifth race and the stallion’s daughter QHAWEKAZI victorious in the seventh race.

William Longsword went close to having a treble on Tuesday with his son XIPHOS finishing second in the third race at Hollywoodbets Greyville.

The Nathan Kotzen trained ROLLO THE VIKING claimed the third win of his career when  he won Tuesday’s Live It. Love It. Own It. www.racecoast.co.za Middle Stakes (1600m).
Under Dezahn Louw, the gelding kept galloping resolutely to win by a long neck.

The Klawervlei sire’s second success came when the Vengi Masawi trained QHAWEKAZI landed the Tote -Speed. Power. Glory. Class 4 (F and M) (1200m). Under the inform Callan Murray, the five-year-old stayed on gamely to win by half a length, with the winner well supported in the pre-race market.
Bred by Daytona Stud, the Hollywood Racing owned mare has won or been placed in ten of 18 starts.

William Longsword, who had had a double over the weekend, has, at the time of writing, been responsible for more winners in South Africa this season than ONE WORLD (Captain Al), DANON PLATINA (Deep Impact) and FIRE AWAY (War Front).

On Saturday, William Longsword gelding NATIONAL AWARD won in Mauritius, while the next day saw William Longsword filly CALL OF THE KAROO win at Hollywoodbets Durbanville.

The Waterford Stud bred National Award picked up the second win of his career when he won Saturday’s The SP Ecogrow Plus Challenge Cup. Trained by Rameshwar Gujadhur, National Award is owned by Mr Abhishek Gujadhur & Mr Bissoonduth Fowdur.

Three-year-old Call Of The Karoo was rewarded for consistency when she claimed Sunday’s Hollywoodbets Durbanville Welcomes You Maiden Plate (1000m). The Glen Kotzen trained filly was given a fine ride by JP Van Der Merwe, who kept Call Of The Karoo going to win by a short head. Bred by Klawervlei, Call Of The Karoo, who had finished second in her two starts prior to Saturday’s win, races for Greg Bortz, Gary Player and Gina Goldsmith.

Call Of The Karoo provided her sire with a 100% strike rate on Sunday, with the filly being William Longsword’s sole runner on the day.
Winner of six of eight races, including the 2016 G1 Cape Guineas, William Longsword has two fillies on offer at this month’s Two Year Old Sale.

Klawervlei look to have bred yet another high-class performer in the form of PERFECT MIRACLE (Hawwaam).
The latter made it two wins from two starts when winning a good race at Turffontein on Saturday.

A six and a quarter length winner on debut, the Tony Peter trained Perfect Miracle duly maintained her unbeaten record when she won the Betway Summer Cup Tickets Are On Sale On Ticketpro Graduation Plate (1200m).
Under a good ride from Calvin Habib, the three-year-old stayed on gamely to win by a neck, despite changing legs throughout running, and Perfect Miracle looks to have a bright career ahead of her.

From the first crop of her sire, Perfect Miracle is owned by Suzette Viljoen.
The unbeaten filly is out of the Tiger Ridge mare FREDDY’S SISTER,  a four time winning three-parts sister to G3 Protea Stakes winner ISPHAN (Tiger Ridge).

Klawervlei Stud’s homebred stallion WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) has been in fine form of late, and he was at it again on Wednesday. 

William Longsword had three runners at Fairview on Wednesday, with two of his trio winning impressively.

The Klawervlei resident struck first on Wednesday when his son RICHARDTHEFEARLESS was given a superb ride by Girish Dookhit to win the Play Soccer 6,10 and 13 MR 72 Handicap convincingly. The Zietsman Oosthuizen trained gelding hit the straight well clear of his rivals, and Richardthefearless kept galloping strongly to win by four and a quarter lengths.

Bred by Drakenstein Stud, Richardthefearless, who was making his first start in the Eastern Cape on Wednesday, races for Messrs S Poriazis & G L Chrisochos.

William Longsword is also the sire of ROYAL KINGDOM, who won the eighth and final race at Fairview on Wednesday. The Alan Greeff trained three-year-old powered home, under Richard Fourie, to win the Next Fairview Racemeeting Friday 3 October MR 76 Handicap (1300m) by a length and three quarters, going away! Bred by Mr Campbell, the Peter Moor owned Royal Kingdom has won twice from just six starts. Held in high regard by his connections, Royal Kingdom looks to have a bright future ahead of him.
