The Justin Snaith trained Mucho Dinero made it four wins in a row when he stormed home to land Saturday’s Premier Trophy in exciting fashion. Under a perfectly judged ride from Grant Van Niekerk, the progressive four-year-old flew up to claim Saturday’s G2 feature by a neck in what proved a thrilling finish.

Owned by Nick Jonsson, Mucho Dinero had reeled off two wins in a row at the start of the season before romping away to land the Listed Woolavington Stakes by four and a quarter lengths.

Bred by Drakenstein Stud, Mucho Dinero, a R1 400 000 purchase from the 2021 National Yearling Sale, is considered a potential G1 Hollywoodbets Durban July contender by his connections.

The gelding is bred on the same TWICE OVER/CASEY TIBBS cross as dual July winner DO IT AGAIN as well as Listed WSB Sweet Chestnut Stakes/Listed WSB River Jetez Stakes winner YOUNG LOVE.

His three-year-old daughter PATANTS HEIR got off the mark at just the second time of asking when she bolted up in Sunday’s Mobile Betting Maiden Plate (F &M) (1200m).

Under Anthandiwe Mgudlwa, the Gareth Van Zyl trained filly hit the front full of run and powered home to win as she liked by over five and a half lengths.

The promising Patants Heir, who was bred by Maine Chance Farms (Pty) Ltd, races for the Hollywood Syndicate.

Hollywood Syndicate also own William Longsword’s other winner on Sunday in the form of KUPHOLIWE, who ran out a convincing winner of the Open A Tabgold Account-031 314 1874 Middle Stakes (1200m).

Under Richard Fourie, the Peter Muscutt trained Kupholiwe powered home down the inside of the track to score a game victory by a long neck.

Bred by Klawervlei Stud, the three-year-old had shown good promise at two when rated good enough to contest the G2 Durban Golden Horseshoe, and Kupholiwe could well build on Sunday’s win.

Twice Over struck again in the very next race when his three-year-old daughter TWO A PENNY won the ninth and last race on the Hollywoodbets Kenilworth card. Trained by Adam Marcus, Two A Penny raced just off the pace early on in Saturday’s Hollywoodbets Bright Future Maiden Plate (1800m) before powering down the inside of the track to get up and break her maiden by nearly half a length.

Owned by Messrs M, S & T Govender, the Alec Foster bred Two A Penny has been the soul of consistency, with the filly having finished in the first four placings in each of her last five starts.

A proven source of G1 winners, Twice Over looks set for a potentially exciting day at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth this Saturday. Klawervlei Stud’s triple G1 winning stallion CAPTAIN OF ALL has had another good year in 2023, and the former Equus Champion looked to have ended the year on a high note when supplying a pair of winners at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Wednesday.

Captain Of All struck first when his two-year-old daughter ALL IS GREEN caused a surprise to win the second race run at Kenilworth on Wednesday. Making just her second start, the Greg Ennion trained filly stormed home, under Corne Orffer, to score a shade cosily by half a length.

Bred by Nadeson Park Stud, All Is Green, who had plenty of excuses for her first run, provided her owners, Genuine Ennion Syndicate, with their first winner. 

Remarkably, All Is Green is the third two-year-old winner, from three two-year-old runners, for Captain Of All this season. At the time of writing, Captain Of All is second on South Africa’s Leading Sires of 2YOs premiership for 2023-2024.

Captain Of All’s second success on Wednesday came when his son CAPTAIN FROSTIE claimed the ninth race, the Hollywoodbets Bright Future Class 5 (1200m), for Paul Reeves and Joshwin Solomons.

The flashy grey ran on strongly to get up close home and claim his second win by just under half a length. Bred, like his sire, by Riverton Stud, Captain Frostie had finished third last time out and he is clearly in fine form.

In the process, the Tony Peter trained gelding made it three wins on the bounce while claiming his biggest victory to date.

Under Calvin Habib, four-year-old Rulership was always up with the pace in Saturday’s G3 feature, and he quickened up smartly in the closing stages to score a shade cosily by half a length.

Bred by Cecil Baitz, who owns Rulership in partnership with Dr Gary Baitz, Rulership has now won six of 18 starts for earnings of more than R570 000.

His sire went close to having a double at Turffontein on Saturday, with William Longsword’s daughter ICE STAR finishing a close up second in the eighth race on the card.

Rulership is one of several high-class flagbearers for his sire this season, with William Longsword also the sire of the classy MELECH and G3 New Turf Carriers Merchants/Listed Golden Loom Handicap winner DYCE.

Tracking the front runners early on in Tuesday’s TAB Telebet Pinnacle Stakes (1600m), the Muzi Yeni ridden Melech was set alight with 200m to go, and the gelded four-year-old kicked on strongly to score gamely by half a length.

In the process, the Roy Magner trained gelding accounted for last season’s G2 Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas winner LADY OF POWER (Master Of My Fate), who ran second, with high-class stakes winners MERIDIUS (Canford Cliffs), CRIMSON KING (Dynasty), LITIGATION (Greys Inn), GILDED BUTTERFLY (Flower Alley) and SAVANNAH STORM (Sudden Storm) among those further back in running.

Melech, who is owned by John Finlayson, will now be aimed at the G3 London News Stakes and ultimately the G1 HF Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes. Bred by Riverton Stud, Melech has now won five of just nine starts for earnings of more than R400 000.
