Klawervlei Stud’s well performed young sire ROYAL MO (Uncle Mo) continues to catch the eye as an exciting young stallion, and the Klawervlei resident came up with his fifth first crop winner at Kenilworth on Saturday, pushing Royal Mo to a 55% strike rate. He is currently THE LEADING FRESHMEN SIRE with 9 runners, 5 winners!

Royal Mo’s son KING MO had run well in his two previous starts, and duly got off the mark when he won Saturday’s Laas and Scholtz Maiden Plate (1000m).

Trained by Vaughan Marshall, King Mo powered home down the inside running rail to win going away by a length and a quarter. Ridden to victory by Oswald Noach, King Mo did well to account for the well bred first-timer Max The Otter and he should go on from this victory.

Bred by Klawervlei Stud, King Mo races for Mr Du Plessis.

His sire Royal Mo had enjoyed a fine weekend, with his son MATSUYAMO scoring at Fairview on Friday and another son ROYAL PORT LOUIS finishing a close up third in the third race at Kenilworth on Saturday.

By the same sire as proven sire, and US champion, NYQUIST, Royal Mo has four lots on offer at this year’s August Two Year Old Sale.

Klawervlei Stud’s successful resident sire CAPTAIN OF ALL (Captain Al) made news twice at Hollywoodbets Greyville over the past weekend.

Not only did Captain Of All’s high-class son SHANGO win Saturday’s G3 Lonsdale Stirrup Cup at Greyville, Captain Of All’s promising son RENAISSANCE MAN caught the eye when victorious at Greyville on Friday evening. 

Trained by Sean Tarry, five-year-old Shango claimed the third graded win of his career when he ran out a cosy winner of Saturday’s G3 Lonsdale Stirrup Cup. Under Gavin Lerena, the Heritage Stud bred gelding ran on strongly to get up to beat the front running FLYING BULL (Soft Falling Rain) by a neck in Saturday’s R175 000 feature.

Shango, who hails from his sire’s very first crop, has now five career wins to his name -including the 2019 TAB/Betting World Dingaans and G3 Hollywoodbets 2200 of 2021. The talented gelding races for Bruce and Jo Gardner in partnership with Sean Tarry Racing (Pty) Ltd.  

Captain Of All is also the sire of lightly raced three-year-old Renaissance Man, who broke his maiden when winning on Friday. Bred by the Collingwood Stud, Renaissance Man was making just his second start on Friday but proved too good when romping home to win by nearly a length and a quarter -with another son of Captain Of All, Captain Bombshell, finishing second.

Trained by Michael Roberts, Renaissance Man, second on his only previous start, races for the Adam Kethro Property Trust.

South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2018-2019, former Klawervlei Farm Sale graduate Captain Of All has seven lots on offer at the upcoming CTS Farm Yearling Sale, including a filly (Lot 45) bred on the same cross as Captain Of All’s top-class son LINEBACKER.

Klawervlei Stud’s increasingly successful sire TWICE OVER (Observatory) has a very smart filly on his hands in the form of CALL THE WIND. The latter made it six wins from six starts when she captured the Listed Nadia Farina Silver Slipper at Borrowdale Park on Sunday.

Under Calvin Habib, the Vanessa Birketoft trained filly romped home to land Sunday’s Listed feature by an emphatic three and a half lengths. Call The Wind, who was bred by the Ascot Stud, had previously shown her class when landing the G3 Zimbabwe Guineas at her penultimate start. Owned by Gengis Goksel, Call The Wind is one of a growing list of high-class gallopers to have emerged from Twice Over’s current crop of three-year-olds.

Other standout performers from this crop include G1 Cape Guineas winner DOUBLE SUPERLATIVE, Listed Ibhayi Stakes victor RESONATE, and recent G2 Senor Santa Stakes hero SMORGASBORD.

Himself a four-time G1 winner, Twice Over has an exceptionally well-bred draft of yearlings on offer at the 2022 National Yearling Sale. They include a three-parts brother to former South African Horse Of The Year DO IT AGAIN (Twice Over), and a colt (Lot 349), closely related to the smart Twice Over gelding TEAM GOLD, whose G3 placed dam is a half-sister to graded stakes winners OLYMPIC OWEN (Jay Peg) and SPEEDY SUZY (Trippi).

Klawervlei Stud enjoyed tremendous success at Sunday’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale, which took place at the lavish De Grendel Wine Estate & Restaurant. Not only did Klawervlei top the Leading Vendors List on Sunday, the Bonnievale farm also consigned the sales’ top-priced colt and filly respectively. Remarkably, the three top lots at Sunday’s sale were all consigned by Klawervlei!

Klawervlei had 46 lots gross R16.325 million, and consigned the sales topping TWICE OVER (Observatory) colt (Lot 66), who was knocked down to John Freeman for R2 000 000. Bred on the same Twice Over/Jet Master cross as recent G1 Cape Guineas winner DOUBLE SUPERLATIVE, the sales topping colt is out of the three-time winning Jet Master mare JET SET MODEL.

Twice Over was not the only Klawervlei stallion to enjoy success at this year’s Premier Sale.

The Klawervlei bred Cape Guineas winner WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al), who has made such an encouraging start to his stud career, ended the sale as the Leading Sire by Aggregate. William Longsword had 25 lots gross R5.985 million, and had two colts fetch R500 000 at Sunday’s sale.

Klawervlei’s inform Vodacom Durban July winning sire POMODORO (Jet Master) also made his mark at the 2022 Premier Sale. The sire of champion RETURN FLIGHT and Guineas winner RUSSIAN ROCK had a filly (Lot 163) fetch R700 000 to the bid of Eric Sands. Out of G2 Gerald Rosenberg Stakes queen TROPHY WIFE (Tiger Ridge), the filly was consigned to the sale by Klawervlei Stud.

Klawervlei Stud’s homebred G1 Cape Guineas winner WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) has made a cracking start to his stud career.
The strapping bay, a winner of six of just eight starts, has made the perfect start at stud, with William Longsword’s eye catching first crop headed by G2 Epol Umkhomazi Stakes winner DYCE, Listed Secretariat Stakes queen BON VIVANT and Listed Model Man Mile victor HASTA MANANA.

Other promising sorts to have emerged from this crop include G2 filly REMEMBER WHEN, Listed #WomenInRacing Sophomore Sprint runner up SAFE RETURN, and the smart COIN SPINNER.

Understandably, the progeny of this exciting young sire have proven popular in the sales ring. A daughter of William Longsword made R1 000 000 at the 2021 National Yearling Sale, while William Longsword himself topped the Top Sires by Aggregate List at the 2021 CTS Ready To Run Sale.

Klawervlei Stud’s European Champion racehorse TWICE OVER (Observatory) has been enjoying a red letter season in 2021-2022 thus far.

Not only is the former 4 x G1 winner responsible for impressive recent G1 Cape Guineas winner DOUBLE SUPERLATIVE, another son of Twice Over, DOUBLEMINT, captured the G3 Chairman’s Cup on L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate day.
 
With a number of other promising three-year-olds, such as BLIZZARD, SENSO UNICO and G2 4Racing SA Nursery runner up SMORGASBORD to his name, Twice Over looks on course for a big year in 2022.
