Klawervlei Stud’s four time G1 winning stallion TWICE OVER (Observatory) made his presence felt at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on World Sports Betting Cape Town Met day.
Twice Over geldings MUCHO DINERO and TRIPLE TIME finished first and third respectively in Saturday’s G3 New Turf Carriers Western Cape Stayers to provide their sire with a 1-3 finish in the R500 000 contest.

Trained, like Triple Time, by Justin Snaith for owner Nick Jonsson, Mucho Dinero made a big impression in claiming the 2025 New Turf Carriers Western Cape.

Under a positive ride from Aldo Domeyer, the gelded five-year-old hit the front 200m from home and powered away to score by a length and three quarters. (His paternal half-brother Triple Time had a rough race and may have been unlucky not to get closer to the winner).

Bred by Drakenstein Stud, Mucho Dinero has won seven of 20 starts, with the classy gelding having also triumphed in the 2024 G2 Anthonij Premier Trophy and 2024 Listed Woolavington Stakes.

Out of the CASEY TIBBS (Sadler’s Wells) mare CASH REGISTER, Mucho Dinero is bred on the same TWICE OVER/CASEY TIBBS cross as dual G1 Vodacom Durban July winner DO IT AGAIN and multiple stakes winner YOUNG LOVE.

Klawervlei Stud’s inform sire CAPTAIN OF ALL (Captain Al) had a smart winner on World Sports Betting Cape Town Met day this past weekend.

His classy son MEU CAPITANO downed a high-class field when he won the World Sports Betting A Stakes (1400m).

Under Gavin Lerena, the Piet Steyn trained four-year-old hit the front 200m from home and powered away to beat 2023 G1 Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas winner SNOW PILOT (Lancaster Bomber) by an impressive two lengths.

Further back in running came such classy gallopers as ALL OUT FOR SIX (One World), SUGAR MOUNTAIN (Silvano), THE REAL PRINCE (Gimmethegreenlight), and WATERBERRY LANE (Soft Falling Rain).

Owned by Messrs Goncalves and Luiz, Meu Capitano (bred on the same Captain Of All/Jet Master cross as multiple graded stakes winner SHANGO), has won five of 13 starts including the 2024 Winter Sprint.

Captain Of All went close to having a Met day double with his son CARRIACOU finishing a close up second in the twelth and final race.

The champion son of Captain Al could be set for more success next weekend, with Captain Of All’s top-class daughter FIERY PEGASUS a likely starter in Saturday’s G2 Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas.

The son of Captain Al had a pair of winners at the Vaal on Thursday afternoon, with another runner, CIAN THE CONQUEROR, finishing second in the eighth race on Thursday.

William Longsword struck first on Thursday won his son LEGENDAY won the first race on the card.
The Clinton Binda trained gelding, runner up in his two previous starts, stayed on strongly, under Piere Strydom to land the 4Racing Welcomes You Maiden Plate (1450m) by nearly half a length. Bred by Maine Chance Farms (Pty) Ltd, the three-year-old races for Dreamstar Racing.

William Longsword is also the sire of high-class gelding MELECH, who showed his class when he won Thursday’s Racing240 For Racing. For You Pinnacle Stakes (1500m). That Roy Magner trained five-year-old showed courage in downing 2024 G1 Wilgerbosdrift H F Oppenehimer Horse Chestnut Stakes winner Main Defender by a neck. Bred by Riverton Stud, the John Finlayson owned gelding had finished third, beaten just a length and a quarter, in the G3 New Turf Carriers Merchants last time out, with Melech having earned over R700 000 in stakes.

The inform William Longsword could well have a big payday on Saturday week, with his son DYCE a contender in the upcoming G1 HKJC World Pool Cape Flying Championship.

Klawervlei Stud’s proven G1 sire TWICE OVER (Observatory) continues to come up with a stream of winners and he struck again with two more winners over the weekend.

Twice Over’s first success came when his son REPETITION won the first race at Fairview on Friday. That Justin Snaith trained three-year-old, making his first start at Fairview, came from a long way back to win the Welcome To Nelson Mandela Bay Open Maiden  (2400m) convincingly.

Under Craig Zackey, Repetition powered home down the centre of the track before going on to score by a length and a half. Bred by Normandy Stud, the lightly raced Repetition races for Bjorn Nielsen.

His four time G1 winning sire had more success at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday, where Twice Over gelding LICENCE TO THRILL won the fifth race on the card.

The Michael Miller trained four-year-old powered home, under Tristan Godden, to claim the Germany B Stakes (1200m) by just over three parts of a length.

Bred by Waterford Stud, the Sterling Miller and Ben Sahd owned gelding has won three times thus far, with Licence To Thrill having finished second, third or fourth in his three races prior to Sunday’s win.

Twice Over went close to having a double on Sunday with his son LAST ONE STANDING finishing second in the fourth race at Hollywoodbets Scottsville.

Champion Twice Over, who finished first, second or third in 11 G1 races, is a proven source of class, with his star progeny including such G1 winners as DO IT AGAIN, SEE IT AGAIN, DOUBLE SUPERLATIVE and SAND AND SEA.

Top-class sprinter TUZ (Oxbow), who hails from the same family as Klawervlei Stud’s exciting young sire KOMMETDIEDING (Elusive Fort), showed his class when romping home to win Friday’s G3 Dubawi Stakes Sponsored By Binghatti Developers at Meydan on Friday.

The eight-year-old, also victorious in last year’s G3 Dubawi Stakes, gave notice that he is ready to defend his G1 Golden Shaheen title when running out a facile winner of Friday’s six furlong contest.

Tuz turned the G3 feature into a one horse race, as he drew off to score by four and three quarter lengths.

It was his second win of the Dubai season and showed promise that the Bhupat Seemar trainee could become the third horse to snare back-to-back victories in the Golden Shaheen.

“He’s a special horse, probably one of the fastest horses in the world right now,” said victorious rider Tadhg O’Shea, who logged his 800th victory in the United Arab Emirates. 

Tuz won the 2024 Golden Shaheen by six and a half lengths.

The Dubai star is directly descended in female line from the wonderful blue hen QUEEN OF LIGHT (Borealis), also ancestress of Kommetdieding among many others.

A top-class racehorse, Kommetdieding won his first four races including the G3 Politician Stakes. The charismatic colt would go on to win both the 2021 G1 Vodacom Durban July and 2022 G1 World Sports Betting Cape Town Met.
