FIRST WINNER FOR WILLIAM LONGSWORD

FIRST WINNER FOR WILLIAM LONGSWORD

Klawervlei Stud’s G1 Cape Guineas winning sire WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) has made a promising start to his stud career and he came up with his first winner when his son SAFE RETURN romped home to a brilliant win at Kenilworth on Wednesday.

Trained, like both William Longsword and Captain Al himself, by Vaughan Marshall (who also trained Captain Al’s first winner), the Klawervlei Stud bred colt had finished second, on Cape Town Met day, on debut, and he went one better on Wednesday with a scintillating performance.

Under Anton Marcus, Safe Return flew out of the starting stalls and from there was never headed. Marcus had time to look over his shoulder, as Safe Return went on to record a four and a quarter length win.

Nominated for the G3 Cape Of Good Hope Nursery, Safe Return races for Messrs D G Abery, J J Habib & R M Sewgoolam, Ralphs Racing (Pty) Ltd (Nom: Miss K Ralphs) & Westward Bloodstock Ltd (Nom: Mrs F Carmichael).

A brilliant racehorse himself, William Longsword won six of only eight starts and joined the likes of his own champion sire CAPTAIN AL (Al Mufti) as well as multiple champion sire and broodmare sire JET MASTER (Rakeen) when he captured the G1 Cape Guineas of his year.

William Longsword shares his multiple champion sire with more than 100 stakes winners including this season’s star three-year-olds CAPTAIN’S RANSOM, ERIK THE RED and MALMOOS, and Klawervlei’s successful sire, and multiple G1 winner, CAPTAIN OF ALL.

Himself a R2 200 000 buy from the 2015 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, William Longsword has 23 lots on offer at this year’s Premier Sale, and a further nine lots on the Cape Yearling Sale.

MERCHANTS SUCCESS FOR CAPTAIN OF ALL

MERCHANTS SUCCESS FOR CAPTAIN OF ALL

Klawervlei Stud’s successful young stallion CAPTAIN OF ALL (Captain Al) enjoyed more feature race success on Friday when his son SULLENBERGER captured the Fairview Merchants (Non-Black Type) over 1200 metres. Victorious in the 2020 Speedsters Stakes, the Alan Greeff trained gelding ended star three-year-old GLOBAL DRUMMER (Global View)’s unbeaten run in the Eastern Cape when he landed Friday’s Merchants. Under Shadlee Fortune, the David Allan bred four-year-old came with a strong late run to get up close home and win going away by a length and a quarter.

Owned by Harry Govender, Sullenberger has now won five times, with the gelding having scored from 1000-1200m. He is one of several high-class performers to have emerged from Captain Of All’s first crop, which saw the Equus Champion Sprinter of 2014-2015 emerge as South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2018-2019. Other notable performers to have emerged from this crop include G2 TAB/Betting World Dingaans hero SHANGO and the stakes-winning fillies CAPTAIN ANNE BONNY and WHAT YOU ARE. Captain Of All has eight lots on the Cape Yearling Sale and a further four lots on the Cape Premier Yearling Sale.

PAISLEY PARK MAKES IT THREE OUT OF THREE

PAISLEY PARK MAKES IT THREE OUT OF THREE

Fresh off Klawervlei Farm Sale graduate Kommetdieding maintaining his unbeaten record when scoring an impressive win at Kenilworth on Saturday, another graduate of the 2019 Klawervlei Farm Sale made it three wins from as many starts at the Vaal on Tuesday afternoon.

An impressive winner of the Listed Secretariat Stakes last time out, PAISLEY PARK (Gimmethegreenlight) stamped himself a three-year-old to watch when scoring a courageous win over 1400m at the Vaal.

The Sean Tarry trained gelding dug down deep, under a strong ride from Lyle Hewitson, to get up close home and score a long head win over fellow promising 3yo VARS VICKY (Var).

Owned by Sean Tarry Racing (Pty) Ltd, in partnership with Cliff Simaan, Paisley Park was a R200 000 buy from the 2019 Klawervlei Farm Sale.

The unbeaten three-year-old is out of EVA TIBBS (Casey Tibbs), a five time winning half-sister to G3 Lonsdale Stirrup Cup winner APPLE-A-DAY (Modern Day), and this is also the family of July winner, and Klawervlei’s successful sire, POMODORO (Jet Master).

IMPRESSIVE WINNER FOR POMODORO

IMPRESSIVE WINNER FOR POMODORO

Klawervlei Stud’s Vodacom Durban July winning sire POMODORO (Jet Master) looks to have come up with another smart looking performer in the form of INDLAMU.

The latter, racing, like his sire did, for owner Chris Van Niekerk and trainer Sean Tarry, made it two wins from just three starts with an impressive display at Turffontein on Thursday afternoon.

A smart maiden winner last time out, Indlamu made it back to back wins when defying a poor draw to win by four and a quarter lengths over 1400m on Thursday.

Ridden to victory by Lyle Hewitson, Indlamu was bred, like Pomodoro’s top-class son CIRILLO, by the Riverton Stud.

South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2017-2018, Pomodoro enjoyed a fine season in 2019-2020 with his flag bearers headed by such graded stakes winners as CIRILLO and GOLDEN BELLE as well as Devon Air Stakes heroine CARALLUMA.
