Klawervlei Stud’s four time G1 winning sire TWICE OVER (Observatory) has had another wonderful season, and the former European champion struck again when he came up with an eye catching winner at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday.

His two-year-old daughter BEAUTIFUL RANIA accounted for older rivals when she won Sunday’s Catch KZN Racing via live streaming on www.galloptv.co.za Maiden Plate (F and M) (1400m) for the inform combination of Dennis Bosch and Rachel Vennikeer.

Making just the second start of her career, the Klawervlei Stud bred filly powered home to score by nearly a length and a quarter, with the Bhana family owned Beautiful Rania having finished fourth on debut.

Beautiful Rania was one of two winners for her sire on Sunday, with Twice Over mare CUTBACK victorious at Borrowdale Park for Thomas Mason and Kaidan Brewer.

Bred by Laurence Wernars, and owned by the Royal Flush Syndicate, Cutback has now five career victories to her name.

Twice Over, whose progeny include the likes of dual G1 Vodacom Durban July winner DO IT AGAIN, G1 winning two-year-old SAND AND SEA and multiple G1 winner SEE IT AGAIN, has had a fantastic season in 2023-2024 with his flagbearers headed by G1 World Sports Betting Cape Town Met winner DOUBLE SUPERLATIVE.

At the time of writing, Twice Over had been responsible for four black type winners this season and his progeny have already earned more than R7.818 million in stakes for 2023-2024.

Klawervlei Stud’s well performed stallion ROYAL MO is the sire of a very smart performer in the form of TYRION LANNISTER.

The latter made it back to back wins when scoring a courageous win at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday afternoon, with Tyrion Lannister coming into Saturday’s race off a win in the Newlands Stakes. Trained by Piet Botha, the three-year-old came with a strong late rattle, under JP Van Der Merwe, to claim the Taking The Reins Class 3 (1600m) by a long neck. Bred by Millstream Farm, Tyrion Lannister, described his trainer as a “very nice horse” races for the Dare To Dream Racing Syndicate.

The colt, who has now won three times, has built up a great record with JP Van Der Merwe, with Van Der Merwe having partnered Tyrion Lannister three times for two wins and a third place finish.

His G3 Robert B. Lewis Stakes winning sire Royal Mo went close to having a double on Saturday, with Royal Mo filly DONNA MO finishing second at Turffontein on the same day.

Royal Mo is one of 100 stakes winners for his outstanding sire Uncle Mo, with Uncle Mo also the sire of Saturdays G1 Apple Blossom Handicap winner ADARE MANOR. The brilliant Adare Manor, also victorious in the G1 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes last year, has now won eight of 16 starts with five other top three finishes for $1,736,600 in earnings

Uncle Mo is also the sire of Kentucky Derby winner NYQUIST, whose son ENCINO won the G3 Stonestreet Lexington Stakes at Keeneland on Saturday.

Klawervlei Stud’s well performed and popular young stallion KOMMETDIEDING (Elusive Fort) hails from a remarkable female line, and this family was to the fore once again in Dubai on Saturday.

TUZ (Oxbow), who ran out such a brilliant winner of Saturday’s G1 Dubai Golden Shaheen Sponsored by Nakheel, is from the same female line as Kommetdieding.

Winner of the G3 Dubawi Stakes earlier this year, Tuz picked up the biggest win of his career when he romped home to a six and a half length win in Saturday’s G1 sprint feature at Meydan.

His winning margin is the greatest in the history of the Golden Shaheen.

Bred by the legendary Calumet Farm, Tuz provided trainer Bhupat Seemar and jockey Tadhg O’Shea with the first leg of a major big race double, with the pair also going on to claim Saturday’s G1 Dubai World Cup Sponsored By Emirates Airline with the brilliant LAUREL RIVER (Into Mischief).

Durable seven-year-old Tuz, like Kommetdieding, is a direct descendant of the hugely influential broodmare QUEEN OF LIGHT (Borealis).

Klawervlei Stud’s red hot resident sire WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) is enjoying a wonderful season this year, and the former Cape Guineas hero struck yet again when he came up with two more winners at Turffontein on Saturday.

His first success on Saturday came when his Lucky Houdalakis trained daughter EMPRESSOFNORMANDY produced a smart turn of foot to win the Racing Today Maiden Plate (F&M) (1200m) going away. Under a perfectly timed ride from Craig Zackey, the three-year-old put her head down in the shadow of the post to score by a head, vanquishing the well bred DRAGON DRAGON (Twice Over) into second spot.

Bred and owned by David Shawe (who has already enjoyed so much success with the progeny of William Longsword), Empressofnormandy had finished third or fourth in each her three runs prior to Saturday’s win.

William Longsword’s second success on Saturday came when his Sean Tarry trained son LONGSWORD ran out an impressive winner of the TAB Telebet 0861 000 822 Maiden Plate (1200m). A three-year-old packed with ability, the gelding powered away, under Richard Fourie, to win as he liked by three and a quarter lengths.

Bred by Klawervlei Stud, Longsword was scoring for a second time, with the sophomore having been rated good enough to contest the G1 World Pool Moment Of The Day Premiers Champion Stakes last season.

His sire could well enjoy further success at Turffontein next Saturday, with William Longsword set to be represented by his star sons DYCE and RULERSHIP in the G1 Jonsson Workwear Computaform Sprint.

Klawervlei Stud’s home bred G1 Cape Guineas winner WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) continues to fire on all cylinders, and William Longsword was at it again when supplying a trio of winners over the past weekend.

The son of Captain Al had success at all of Fairview, Turffontein and Hollywoodbets Greyville over the weekend, and William Longsword shows no sign of slowing down this season.

William Longsword struck first on Friday, when his Kelly Mitchley trained daughter ESSENTIAL romped home to win the third race at Fairview by two and a half lengths.

Under S’Manga Khumalo, the three-year-old proved far too strong for her rivals when breaking her maiden convincingly. Bred by Klawervlei Stud, Essential, who was making her first start in Fairview on Friday, races for Messrs L A Marques & A G Balanco.

Her sire’s winning streak continued at Turffontein the following day, when William Longsword filly ZENOBIA’S GOLD justified tote favouritism to land the TAB Telebet 0861 000 822 Maiden Plate (F&M) (1400m). Trained by Sean Tarry, the Gavin Lerena partnered three-year-old came with a strong late rattle to get up and win by half a length. Bred by Klawervlei, and owned by Sean Tarry Racing (Pty) Ltd, Zenobia’s Gold had finished second, third or fourth in three of her four previous starts.

William Longsword went close to having a double at Turffontein with another daughter, ENCHANTING LADY, finishing second in the first race.

The Klawervlei bred and based sire ended the weekend on a high note when his Andre Nel trained son SHOTGUN WILLIE came with a strong late finish to claim Sunday’s eighth race at Greyville. Under a well judged ride from Serino Moodley, the Sabine Plattner owned four-year-old got up in the shadow of the post to score by a short-head.

Another bred by Klawervlei Stud, Shotgun Willie was winning for a second time when victorious on Sunday.

His sire William Longsword has had a wonderful season with his flagbearers including not only G1 World Pool Cape Flying Championship winner DYCE and G3 Betway Lebelo Sprint winner RULERSHIP but also high-class three-year-old WILLIAM IRON ARM.

William Longsword’s two-year-old daughter MISS SCALETTA made the perfect start to her racing career when she won Thursday’s 4Racing Welcomes You Juvenile Plate (Fillies) over 1200 metres.

Under Philasande Mxoli, the Paul Matchett trained filly raced at the back of the field for much of Thursday’s race before storming down the inside of the track to score by two and a half lengths on debut.

Bred by Varsfontein Stud, Miss Scaletta races for Sarah Clarke. Bred to enjoy further, Miss Scaletta looks to be an exciting prospect for the season ahead.

William Longsword went close to having a double at Turffontein on Thursday with his daughter LIKE A BUTTERFLY finishing second in third race and another daughter ZENOBIA’S GOLD filling the runner up berth in the fourth race.

The sire of this season’s graded stakes winning sprinters DYCE and RULERSHIP is also the sire of another exciting two-year-old filly in the form of GOLDEN CHANDELIER.

The latter made it back to back wins when winning at Hollywoodbets Greyville recently and Golden Chandelier looks a potential feature race contender in the making.
