Klawervlei Stud’s triple G1 winning sire CAPTAIN OF ALL (Captain Al) had a good day on Saturday when he came up with a pair of winners at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth.

The former champion sprinter’s first success on Saturday came when the Candice Bass-Robinson trained LOVE SHACK got off the mark when victorious in the fourth race.

Under a well timed ride from Aldo Domeyer, the three-year-old was prominent for much of the race and stayed on strongly to claim Saturday’s Cape Turf Club Maiden Plate (F&M) (1200m) by just under half a length.

Bred by Volmoed Stud, Love Shack had been the soul of consistency prior to Saturday’s win with the filly having finished second, third or fourth in each of her seven starts prior to her maiden win.

Love Shack is owned by M F Bass, Dayalan Chinsammy, Andy Elton, Chase Liebenberg, and Satch Mathen, Miss Pippa Mickleburgh and Mr A & Mrs E Stokes.

Captain Of All gelding MEU CAPITANO made a bright start to his career when making a winning debut in July last year and he bounced back to winning ways when he won the ninth and final race at Kenilworth on Saturday. Backed into 33-10, the Piet Steyn trained three-year-old flew up to claim Saturday’s Hollywoodbets Bright Future Class 3 (1200m) by a long neck going away.

Bred by Beaumont Stud, Meu Capitano, who has benefitted from being gelded, races for Messrs Goncalves and Luiz.

Klawervlei Stud’s well performed resident sire ROYAL MO (Uncle Mo) continues to churn out winners, despite having a small number of runners, and the former G3 Robert B. Lewis Stakes winner was at it again when his son TYRION LANNISTER won the Newlands Stakes (1400m) at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday.

Trained by Piet Botha, three-year-old Tyrion Lannister was given a superb ride by JP Van Der Merwe. Tyrion Lannister jumped away smartly and went out to make the running, the Royal Mo colt appeared beaten close home but he fought back gamely to get up and win by three-parts of a length.

The Newlands Stakes was a good race for Klawervlei, with the farm’s resident stallions Royal Mo and William Longsword sire of the winner and runner up respectively.

Royal Mo, whose daughter HAPPY MO had romped to an impressive maiden win recently, had enjoyed feature race success just a few weeks ago when Royal Mo gelding ROYAL AUSSIE ran out a courageous winner of the Listed Pongracz Jet Master Stakes. To date, Royal Aussie, who is bound for KZN later this season, has earned more than R5.8 million in prize money.

Klawervlei Stud’s bang inform stallion TWICE OVER (Observatory) looks to have a progressive daughter to his name in the form of TWO A PENNY.

The latter made it three wins a row when winning a good race at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Tuesday afternoon, with Two A Penny having either won or been placed in eight of nine starts.

Under SplashOut Cape Derby winning jockey Craig Zackey, the Adam Marcus trained three-year-old kept finding nicely in the closing stages of Tuesday’s RaceCape Powered By Hollywoodbets Class 4 (1800m) and won convincingly by a length and a quarter.

Bred by Alec Foster (also breeder of the Twice Over sired Listed Hollywoodbets Settlers Trophy winner SENSO UNICO), Two A Penny races for Messrs M A Govender, S S Govender and T Govender.

In the process, the filly made it back-to-back wins, with Hear My Voice having scored over 1100 metres last time out.

Under a tremendous ride from the record chasing Richard Fourie, the Paul Reeves-trained Hear My Voice was covered up for much of Sunday’s Hollywoodbets Bright Future Cape C Stakes (1000m) before being set alight close home.

The four-year-old flew up and got up to win, going away, by a long neck.

Owned by the trainer’s mother, Mrs Cutmore, Hear My Voice has now won four times.

The filly was bred by the Klawervlei Grooms Trust.

Her sire Captain Of All was represented by no fewer than three runners in Saturday’s G3 TAB J J The Jet Plane Stakes including this season’s Listed Southeaster Sprint winner KISS ME CAPTAIN.

Klawervlei Stud’s inform Cape Guineas winning sire WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) enjoyed more success this season when his two-year-old daughter FROSTY RECEPTION made a winning debut at Fairview on Friday.

Trained by Sharon Kotzen, Frosty Reception showed plenty of pace, under Louis Mxothwa, and kicked on nicely to win the Welcome To Nelson Mandela Bay Maiden Juvenile Plate (1200m) convincingly by half a length.

Bred by Greenacres Trust in partnership with Hemel ‘N Aarde Stud, the two-year-old races for Messrs N J W Deetlefs, G M Kotzen, K B Larsen, Mesdames D Jithoo & Sharon Kotzen.

She is the second two-year-old winner, from just a handful of runners, for William Longsword this season. The sire’s two-year-old daughter GOLDEN CHANDELIER had won well at Turffontein last month, with Golden Chandelier having finished third to the exciting ALMOND SEA (Canford Cliffs) previously.

Himself a brilliant performer who won six of his eight starts, William Longsword is having a fantastic season in 2023-2024, and, at the time of writing, sits fifth on South Africa’s General Sires List.

His flagbearers this season include brilliant G1 World Pool Cape Flying Championship winner DYCE, exciting three-year-old WILLIAM IRON ARM and G3 Betway Lebelo Sprint winner RULERSHIP.

Klawervlei Stud’s graded stakes winning sire ROYAL MO (Uncle Mo) continues to churn out winners, despite only having a handful of runners, and the son of Uncle Mo enjoyed big race success at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday when his son ROYAL AUSSIE won the Listed Pongracz Jet Master Stakes.

Winner of the 2023 World Sports Betting Gold Rush, four-year-old Royal Aussie had shown his class earlier this season when finishing third, behind champion CHARLES DICKENS (Trippi), in the 2024 G1 L’Ormarins King’s Plate and suffered from an indifferent ride last time out when unplaced in the G1 World Sports Betting Cape Town Met.

However, the Justin Snaith trained gelding was all the rage to make amends for that defeat and was dispatched 9-4 tote favourite for the 2024 Jet Master Stakes.

Under a good ride from Grant Van Niekerk, Royal Aussie struck the home 200m from home and stayed on gamely to land the Pongracz Jet Master Stakes by a length and a half.

Bred by Klawervlei Stud, Royal Aussie has now won five of 17 starts and he has earned more than R5.8 million in prize money.

The classy gelding is owned by Dane Squance, Suzette Viljoen and Dr Warner.

Royal Aussie is now likely to head to KwaZulu-Natal for attempts at further feature race glory.

His sire Royal Mo shares his sire Uncle Mo with no fewer than 15 G1 winners including current sire sensation NYQUIST and dual Breeders’ Cup winner GOLDEN PAL.
