Klawervlei Stud’s G1 winning G1 sire WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) is from a family which continues to make waves.
On Thursday, it was announced that William Longsword’s star relative GIMME A PRINCE (Gimmethegreenlight) was ranked joint seventh on LONGINES World’s Best Racehorse Rankings.
The same day, saw a colt out of William Longsword’s full-sister REALLY ROYAL (Captain Al) make R3 500 000 at the Premier Yearling Sale.

The brilliant Gimme A Prince, who is out of William Longsword’s G1 South African Fillies Sprint/G3 Poinsettia Stakes winning half-sister REAL PRINCESS (Trippi), was given a rating of 118 for the period of January 1st to March 9th.
He is thus rated superior to such international G1 winners as ANOTHER WIL (Street Boss), EL VENCEDOR (Shocking), and the Breeders’ Cup winners STRAIGHT NO CHASER (Speightster) and REBEL’S ROMANCE (Dubawi).

Gimme A Prince stamped his claims for an Equus Award later in the year when he romped home to a five and three quarter length win in the G1 HKJC World Pool Cape Flying Championship. He made it back to back wins next time out when running out a convincing winner of the G2 Khaya Stables Diadem Stakes and he ranks as the best sprinter currently in South Africa.

He is one of three stakes winners for Real Princess this season, with the latter also the dam of 2024 G3 Baker McVeigh Diana Stakes winner GIMMIE’S COUNTESS (Gimmethegreenlight) and Listed City Of Cape Town Jet Master Stakes hero THE REAL PRINCE (Gimmethegreenlight).

Blue blooded mare Really Royal, whose victories included the 2021 Listed World Sports Betting Sweet Chestnut Stakes, made headlines on Thursday. The full-sister to William Longsword had a Vercingetorix colt (Lot65) make R3 500 000 when purchased by Leon Ellman at the Premier Yearling Sale.
Named Kalahari King, the regally bred colt was consigned to the sale by Drakenstein Stud, as Agent.

William Longsword gelding DUMBLEDORE won a good race at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Saturday, while promising William Longsword filly JEANNE DARC scored at Hollywoodbets Scottsville the following day.

The regally bred Dumbledore picked up his third career win when he won Saturday’s Book Now For Royal Raceday On 16 March 2025 Class 3 (1250m). Under an inform Richard Fourie, the Vaughan Marshall trained grey defied 60kgs with a smart performance.
Settled just off the pace, Dumbledore hit the front 200m from home and stayed on to win a good race by a length and three quarters.

Owned by Rikesh Seewgoolam, Dumbledore was bred by the BBP Syndicate.

Promising filly Jeanne Darc made it two wins from just five starts when she won the eighth race at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday. The Stuart Ferrie trained three-year-old showed plenty of heart in fighting off runner up RADU (Rabada) to win the Sharmena Bunseelal (35 years) Class 4 (F and M) (1600m) by nearly a length.
Jeanne Darc has now won two of her last three starts and she looks to have a bright future.

Bred by Ridgemont Highlands, Jeanne Darc is yet to finish out of the first three. She is owned by Mike Fullard in partnership with James and Lee-Ann Drew.

Her G1 Cape Guineas winning sire William Longsword has two lots on offer at this week’s Premier Yearling Sale -a colt (Lot 211) from the family of G1 Australian Cup winner STARSTRUCK (Haulpak), and a filly (Lot 223) who is closely inbred to FORT WOOD (Sadler’s Wells).

Star sprinter TUZ (Oxbow), who hails from the same female line as Klawervlei Stud’s exciting young sire KOMMETDIEDING (Elusive Fort), made it five wins in a row when he won at Meydan on Saturday.
The evergreen eight-year-old made it win number ten overall when he romped home to win the G3 Mahab Al Shimaal by five lengths.

Tuz, who is trained by Bhupat Seemar, was ridden to victory by Tadhg O’Shea, who said after the win, “”He’s a machine of a horse that every jockey wants,” O’Shea said. “Now we have five weeks to sharpen him up.”
The on of Oxbow has  a 10-3-4 record, including six group wins, in 23 starts and more than $2 million in earnings for owner Dakki Stable.

The remarkable Tuz, a six and a half length winner of the 2024 G1 Dubai Golden Shaheen, has won his last five races by an aggregate of more than 25 lengths.

Saturday’s winner is out of SUEDE SHOES (Pulpit), a direct descendant of the wonderful producer QUEEN OF LIGHT (Borealis), the ancestress of Kommetdieding.

The latter was an exceptional performer who won his first four starts, including the G3 Politician Stakes, before going on to win the 2021 G1 Vodacom Durban July and 2022 G1 World Sports Betting Cape Town Met.
Among the numerous champions beaten by Kommetdieding during his stellar career were DO IT AGAIN (Twice Over), GOT THE GREENLIGHT (Gimmethegreenlight), JET DARK (Trippi), and RAINBOW BRIDGE (Ideal World).

SIDDELEY (Lancaster Bomber), like William Longsword descended in female line from the mare BLUEBELL GIRL (Drum Beat), claimed her biggest win when victorious in Saturday’s G3 SplashOut Prix Du Cap. The Justin Snaith trained four-year-old powered home, under Gavin Lerena, to claim Saturday’s 1400m feature by nearly half a length. (Her close relative, and G3 Baker McVeigh Diana Stakes winner, GIMMIE’S COUNTESS (Gimmethegreenlight), ran fifth to Siddeley). Bred and owned by Lammerskraal Stud, Siddeley had finished a close up third in the Listed SABC Olympic Duel Stakes prior to Saturday’s win, and she has won four of 19 outings.

Outstanding sprinter GIMME A PRINCE (Gimmethegreenlight), a full-brother to THE REAL PRINCE, made it back to back graded wins when he stormed home to win Saturday’s G2 Khaya Stables Diadem Stakes. A brilliant last out winner of the G1 Cape Flying Championship (a race he won previously in 2023), the Dean Kannemeyer trained six-year-old swooped late, under a great ride by Craig Zackey, and won comfortably by three parts of a length. Bred and owned by Khaya Stables, Gimme A Prince has strong claims to the title of South Africa’s top sprinter this season.

William Longsword could be represented by his son BACK IN BUSINESS in Saturday’s G1 Wilgerbosdrift H F Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes and by his daughters MISS SCALETTA and WILLY MEET AGAIN in the same day’s G1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic. Miss Scaletta has also been entered in the G1 TAB SA Classic on Saturday.
The G1 Cape Guineas winner has four lots on offer at the Premier Yearling Sale, including a full-sister (Lot 197) to the classy JUST BE LEKKER (William Longsword).

Klawervlei Stud’s multiple G1 winning stallion TWICE OVER came up with a pair of winners over the weekend. 

On Saturday, Twice Over gelding TAMBOURINE MAN won the ninth race at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth, and the following day, another son of Twice Over, LICENCE TO THRILL, won the seventh race at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. 

His sire’s only runner at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth, the Adam Marcus trained Tambourine Man was given a fine ride by Craig Zackey to land the penultimate race on Saturday.
Zackey bought Tambourine Man with a storming late run which saw Tambourine Man power home to win going away by a long neck. Bred by Klawervlei, five-year-old Tambourine Man races for Mr Gujadhur and Adam Marcus in partnership with Wendy Probert.

Twice Over’s second success this weekend came on Sunday when his son Licence To Thrill justified sustained betting support to win the Gallop TV Youtube Channel Middle Stakes over 1200 metres. Under Tristan Godden, four-year-old Licence To Thrill stormed home to make it back to back with a near half length triumph.

Another son of Twice Over, and 2022 G2 Senor Santa Stakes winner, SMORGASBORD, finished fourth to Licence To Thrill. Trained by Michael Miller, the Waterford Stud bred Licence To Thrill races for Sterling Miller and Ben Sahd.
