Not only did William Longsword gelding TOUCHDOWN make much of the running to win the second race at Durbanville on Tuesday, the stallion’s daughter YOUREYESONLY performed a similar feat when she romped home to land the very next race on the card!

A three-parts brother to dual G1 winner LINEBACKER (whose sire CAPTAIN OF ALL was, like William Longsword, sired by Captain Al), the Vaughan Marshall trained Touchdown got off the mark at the fifth time of asking when he landed Tuesday’s Cape Racing Sales Open Maiden (1400m) by a length and a half.

Bred by Klawervlei, who also bred his Vaughan Marshall trained sire, Touchdown races for Messrs R L Gabler & KenTruter & Mesdames C L Gabler & Jane Truter.

His paternal half-sister YOUREYESONLY provided William Longsword, Vaughan Marshall and Klawervlei with a quick double when she won the Cape Turf Club Syndicate Open Maiden (F&M) (1400m) emphatically by two and three-quarter lengths.

Under Ashton Arries, the filly romped home to shed her maiden in decisive style for owners Messrs David Abery & Rikesh Sewgoolam, Mrs B A Moody, Westward Bloodstock Ltd, & Ralphs Racing (Pty) Ltd.

Remarkably, William Longsword’s family also got in the act on Tuesday, with SIDDELEY (Lancaster Bomber), who is from the same female line as William Longsword, running out a fluent winner of the seventh race at Hollywoodbets Durbanville.

William Longsword, whose Listed Golden Loom Handicap winning son DYCE looks a likely contender for the upcoming G3 New Turf Carriers Merchants, has four lots on offer at the upcoming November Two Year Old Sale.

Klawervlei’s homebred sire WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) continues to churn out winners all over South Africa, and the former Cape Guineas winner was at it again when supplying two more winners over the weekend.

William Longsword struck first this weekend when his regally bred son DOWNING SEVEN captured the fourth race at Fairview on Friday. A four-year-old, the Jacques Strydom trained gelding hit the front 200m from home in Friday’s Racing 240 For Racing. For You Classified Stakes (1900m) before powering away to score by two and a quarter lengths.

The Ralphs Syndicate bred Downing Seven, who was ridden to victory by Robert Khathi, was making it back-to-back wins, with the gelding racing for Messrs Andre van Schaik, E R Gertenbach, R J Munien, J V A Strydom, Mrs M O Strydom and the Money Talks Syndicate.

William Longsword also had success at Turffontein on Sunday, where his son BIRTHRIGHT romped home to land the Maiden Plate (1600m) convincingly. Under Kaidan Brewer, the Alec Laird trained Birthright was in front a long way from home and stayed on strongly to shed his maiden by two and three-quarter lengths. Bred by Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm, three-year-old Birthright, who is yet to finish out of the first four, races for Messrs G C Cornwall, L Clark and J P Rey.

Klawervlei Stud’s multiple G1 winning sire CAPTAIN OF ALL (Captain Al) looks to have a progressive sort to his name in the form of NAVAJO DANCER.

The latter, who ran behind subsequent G3 Godolphin Barb Stakes winner CLIFF HANGER (Canford Cliffs) on his only prior start, caught the eye when he won impressively at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Saturday.

Under Aldo Domeyer, the Gareth Van Zyl trained Navajo Dancer turned Saturday’s Hollywoodbets Durbanville Welcomes You Maiden Plate (1000m) into a one-horse race as he drew off to score by three and a quarter lengths. Bred by Riethuiskraal Stud, three-year-old Navajo Dancer races for Lucky Vest 12 CC.

His sire Captain Of All went close to winning the first two races at Durbanville on Saturday, with the Klawervlei sire’s daughter LOVE SHACK finishing a close-up second, beaten half a length, in the second race run on Saturday.

South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2018-2019, Captain Of All has been responsible for some eye-catching runners this season, with his sons CAPTAIN HINDSIGHT and CAPTAIN ARROW finishing second in this season’s Listed Golden Loom Handicap and Need For Speed Sprint respectively.

His first success came when his son RED WILLIAM scored a convincing win at Fairview on Friday afternoon. Trained by Glen Kotzen (who has enjoyed plenty of success with the progeny of William Longsword), four-year-old Red William, under a good ride from Raymond Danielson, raced in second place early on in Friday’s race before staying on nicely to win by a length and a quarter. Bred by Stone Hill Stud, Red William has now won twice from his last four starts, with the consistent gelding having finished first or second in each of his last four starts. Red William races for Roz Mardon and Liz Matthysen, and he looks sure to provide his connections with more success.

His sire William Longsword had more success the following day when his son INCREDIBILL scored at Hollywodbets Durbanville on Saturday. Third, to the smart ROYAL MO (Uncle Mo) son RIGHT ROYAL MO last time out, the Vaughan Marshall trained Incredibill romped home, under the title-chasing Richard Fourie, to claim Saturday’s second race by an emphatic two and a half lengths. Bred by Pete Carolin, the well bred Incredibill, whose trainer also trained William Longsword himself, races for Rikesh Sewgoolam.

William Longsword’s third winner this past weekend came when his daughter ROSE OF BAYEUX scored at Fairview on Jonsson Workwear Algoa Cup day. Trained by Duncan McKenzie, five-year-old Rose Of Bayeux made it three wins in a row with a stirring win in the fourth race on Sunday. Under Denis Schwarz, the daughter of William Longsword ran on strongly down the inside of the track to get  up close home and win by a length and a quarter. Bred by Basil Marcus, Rose Of Bayeux (who has now won seven races) races for Morgan Govender.

Klawervlei Stud’s well bred resident sire ROYAL MO (Uncle Mo) looks to have another smart sort on his hands in the form of the progressive RULE OF THUMB.

The latter made it three wins from his last four starts when he won at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Saturday. A four-year-old gelding trained by Justin Snaith, Rule Of Thumb has built up a great relationship with jockey Craig Bantam. That combination made it three wins together from six starts when Rule Of Thumb claimed Saturday’s The Wolf Power Syndicate Class 4 convincingly.

Slightly unlucky when second last time out, Rule Of Thumb made no mistakes on Saturday when he powered home to score a shade cosily by three parts of a length. Rule Of Thumb is one of the great stories of racing with the gelding racing with four pins in his sesamoid, and he is a great tribute to his sire Royal Mo. Bred by Klawervlei Stud, Rule Of Thumb races for Andrew Brand and Jonathan Snaith.

His sire Royal Mo is a graded stakes winning son of the Breeders’ Cup winning champion, and outstanding stallion, UNCLE MO (Indian Charlie), whose 97 stakes winners include 2023 G1 winners A MO REAY, ADARE MANOR and ARABIAN KNIGHT.

Klawervlei Stud’s consistently successful sire TWICE OVER (Observatory) came up with another eye catching stakes winner on Saturday. Twice Over’s classy son MUCHO DINERO turned the Listed Woolavington Stakes (2400m), run at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Saturday, into a one-horse race as he romped home to score by an emphatic four and a quarter lengths.

Trained by Justin Snaith (who has enjoyed plenty of success with the progeny of Twice Over), four-year-old Mucho Dinero made it three wins in a row with a dominant display in the 2023 Woolavington Stakes. Under Yuzae Ramzan, Mucho Dinero stormed home from the back of the field to hit the front full of running and win as he liked by over four lengths. Rated good enough to contest the 2023 G1 Splashout Cape Derby (won by his paternal half-brother SEE IT AGAIN), the Nick Jonsson owned Mucho Dinero has now won five times from 12 starts.

Bred by Drakenstein Stud, Mucho Dinero was a R1 400 000 buy from the 2021 National Yearling Sale.

Twice Over has enjoyed plenty of success at Durbanville this season, with his sons SENSO UNICO and TRIPLE TIME finishing 1-2 respectively in the 2023 Listed Hollywoodbets Settlers Trophy.
