Captain Of All filly lands Devon Air Stakes

Klawervlei Stud’s multiple G1 winning stallion CAPTAIN OF ALL (Captain Al) has been in great form of late and the champion son of Captain Al was at it again on Saturday when his daughter WHISTLE THE TUNE won the Listed Hollywoodbets Super League Devon Air Stakes (1400m) at Hollywoodbets Greyville.
Trained by Glen Kotzen, Whistle The Tune was given a fine ride by Richard Fourie to land Saturday’s R200 000 contest.

The two-year-old, who races for Sandy and Eugene Arundel, stormed home down the inside of the track, and hit the front with 200m left to run.
Fourie kept the Oldlands Stud bred Whistle The Tune going and the pair stayed on to win by nearly three-parts of a length.

She is the second daughter of Captain Of All to win the Listed Devon Air Stakes, with the sire’s WHAT YOU ARE victorious in the 2019 race.

Champion Sprinter Captain Of All also enjoyed success at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth recently when his progressive son MEU CAPITANO won the Winter Sprint in smart fashion.

South Africa’s Champion Sprinter of 2014-2015, Captain Of All has seven lots on offer at the 2024 KZN Yearling Sale.

Kommetdieding relative lands French Derby

Kommetdieding relative lands French Derby

Klawervlei Stud’s G1 July/G1 Met winning sire KOMMETDIEDING (Elusive Fort) hails from an exceptional female line and this family was in the headlines yet again on Sunday.
Unbeaten three-year-old LOOK DE VEGA (Lope De Vega), like Kommetdieding a descendant of CHANDELIER (Goyama) showed his class when he won Sunday’s G1 Qatar Prix du Jockey Club (French Derby) at Chantilly.
Unbeaten in three Look De Vega, who was emulating his sire in winning the French classic, notched the French Derby in style for Carlos and Yann Lerner and Ronan Thomas, leaving his perfect record intact at Chantilly in the feature.
One of the market leaders along with Aidan O’Brien’s Diego Velazquez, the colt came into the race with two comfortable prior victories under his belt.
He broke well from the stalls and settled in behind the front runners under Ronan Thomas, keeping his powder dry until the home straight when others began to falter.
Then he picked up the lead, surging clear in the final two furlongs to cross the line comfortably ahead of First Look.
Look De Vega was cut from 33-1 into 8-1 for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe following his win on Sunday.
This family was in the news earlier in the year when TUZ (Oxbow) won the G1 Dubai Golden Shaheen. Tuz, like Kommetdieding and Look De Vega, is a direct descendant of QUEEN OF LIGHT (Borealis).
An exceptional racehorse, Kommetdieding won the G1 Vodacom Durban July in 2021, and the G1 World Sports Betting Cape Town Met the following year.
His eagerly awaited first foals arrive this year.

Winter Sprint triumph for Captain of All

Klawervlei Stud’s triple G1 winning CAPTAIN OF ALL (Captain Al) looks to have come up with a very smart sprinter in the form of MEU CAPITANO.
The latter made it three wins in a row when running out an impressive winner of Sunday’s Winter Sprint run at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth.
The 2024 Winter Sprint was a triumph for Captain All, with Meu Captaino and fellow Captain Of All son JERUSALEMA RAIN finishing first and third respectively.
Trained by Piet Steyn, the progressive Meu Capitano was given a confident ride by Richard Fourie in Sunday’s 1200m sprint.
Fourie unleashed the three-year-old with 200m from home, and Meu Capitano quickly responded by opening up and drawing off to win a good race by a length and a half.
In the process, the Beaumont Stud bred gelding accounted for such high-class graded stakes winners as QUESTIONING (Querari), BEREAVE (Vercingetorix), WE’RE JAMMING (Duke Of Marmalade) and Equus Champion RIO QUERARI.
Owned by Mr C A F Goncalves & Mr D Luiz, Meu Capitano has now won four of eight starts.
Earlier on the card, Captain Of All’s speedy daughter SHE’S MY CAPTAIN had picked up her fifth career when running out a game winner of the Perfectly Placed Class 4 (F and M) over1000 metres.
Under Richard Fourie (the only jockey to have won on her), the Harold Crawford/Michelle Rix trained mare produced a smart turn of foot which saw She’s My Captain get up close home and win by nearly half a length.
Bred by Klawervlei Stud, She’s My Captain races for Michelle Rix and Adrian Long.
Former Equus Champion Captain Of All has five lots on offer at the upcoming Cape Racing Winter Yearling Sale and seven lots on offer at the KZN Yearling Sale.

Three winners from last three meetings for William Longsword

Klawervlei Stud’s homebred G1 Cape Guineas winner WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) has had a great season thus far, and his good season has continued this week.

William Longsword has had a winner at each of the three last racemeetings, with his son COMMANDING providing jockey Richard Fourie with his 300th win of the 2023-2024 season at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday. Promising two-year-old Commanding, who had contested the R1 000 000 G3 City Of Cape Town Cape Of Good Hope Nursery last time out, got off the mark in fine style on Sunday.

The Glen Kotzen trained colt romped home to break his maiden decisively by three lengths, as he put daylight between himself and his rivals. Bred by Maine Chance Farms (Pty) Ltd, Commanding races for Messrs R P Macnab, S H G Pretorius, A Robertson, L Robertson & J M Singh.

His sire William Longsword struck again at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Tuesday when his daughter DOUBLE DREAM won at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth.  The mare, trained like both William Longsword and Captain Al by Vaughan Marshall, stormed home from off the pace and got up to land the Perfectly Placed Class 5 (F&M) (1200m). Bred by Klawervlei Stud, the Vaughan Marshall owned Double Dream was winning for a third time when victorious on Tuesday.

William Longsword’s winning streak continued at Hollywoodbets Greyville the following day when his son IMAGINABLE won the seventh race on the card.
